I do not know, because I have never been to higher ground, but it sure seems that the team comes into season behind comparable talented teams. There is no doubt in his first two full seasons that the team improves over the course of the season. Our team reminds me of my high school rival team. They were very undisciplined at the beginning of the year, yet you never wanted to play them at the end of the year, because by then they were finally in game shape and picked up the mental side. At this point, they could rely on superior talent to take advantage.

In our case it seems the layoffs always end with our team laying an egg. First of the year and bowl season comes to mind.

I am talking about games at the beginning of the year when we underperformed. Illinois, USF, Memphis, Miami, Ohio State, Miami(oh both years) and the two bowl games. And games at the end of the year where we have beaten Houston twice, ECU, played Louisville tough, and smeared bad teams like Rutgers, SMU, Tulane, and USF. I have to wonder what goes on at higher ground.

I don't think this fan base understood how much more challenging the schedule was this year. Most fans see the American as a pushover league that UC should easily win. I see road games at Memphis, BYU, USF, Houston and ECU as major hurdles. Remaining home games against UCF and Miami Fl are not going to be easy either. Cats should have beaten the Owls and there really isn't a good excuse to come out flat like they did in the third quarter. This season's schedule is way more difficult than the past two years, 8-4 or 9-3 this season is a much stronger result than 9-3 the previous two years. There is a good chance that 8-4 or 9-3 lands UC in the top 25 or at least on the cusp with a bowl win. By the end of the year there is good chance the American has two to three ranked in the lower half of the top 25.

Get through the first six at 4-2 and UC probably should be close to being ranked. Beat Miami this week and then take two out of three from Memphis, Miami Fl, and BYU.

This schedule us just average if y ou consider this a decent team. If fans lower the bar for expectations after the fact they will get the program they deserve.

I think most fans are not happy, since many of us thought we were taking a step forward this year. Many of us realize the schedule is more challenging. However, in order to take a step forward you need to beat teams such as a good Temple or Houston teams and teams such as middling Miami(FL). You need to blowout teams like Miami(oh) and do so impressively. Until UC wins these games in this fashion they will continue to lack national respect. After week 2 UC is not in the top tier of the G5. The good news is this is just week 2. Hopefully ... hopefully ... they can get it together and Temple is a blip on the radar. They can still have a great season, however the teams are going to get tougher and UC needs to turn it around fast.

If UC wants to be in that discussion with those schools, then there is no way they can call this schedule tough. I agree with both of you.

And Temple, while not a pushover, is a team you have to beat if you want to win a very winnable conference.

We have more talent, especially on offense, we are at home - that is a game you figure out how to win.
