RE: ESPN - Big East is still a major conference
The point to be a major conference is to compete in all sports that are offered by the other conferences. Big 10 does have an unfair advantage over the other conferences for having a LaCrosse and Men's Hockey. Big East are at a disadvantage from the rest for football, hockey and so forth. AAC have an advantage in baseball over than the Big East. It seems all the Florida schools at D1 that have baseball are pretty good.
Ruling in one sport does not make you a major conference.

why because you say so? You can be a major conference in one sport, but not another. and right now, the Big East has performed as a major conference in basketball. The AAC hasn't.

I'm thinking typo, and he meant to type "basketball". This is a time of year a lot of college sports fans have football on the brain.

I think they're just fine in that small conference they put together, but let's all be honest here, if you're the newbe and are looking yourself in the mirror, don't be upset with yourself and the rest of the world b/c you no longer sexy.
All is not lost, just have to wait a while longer before you (nBE) are mention or seen again when basketball season rolls around... Close to being an afterthought but not yet present, IMO.
BE would have been better not breaking away from the AAC.The two together would have been a major conference
The BE is still a major conference. The AAC, not so much.
Big time leagues are all-sports with major universities.
Not the BE
why because you said so? I don't think so.
Also how good a conference is in one sport has absolutely NO bearing at all how good they are in another sport.
Major tv contracts define the P5.
Large budgets define the P5
Large universities define the P5
Keeping the BE with the AAC makes it close to the P5

Ok Big East, we have received our marching orders from David. Everyone build a football stadium, start offering 80 scholarships and hire large expensive football staffs. Send the invoices to David. I hear he's loaded.
And fire Val Ackerman for not coming up with this plan sooner.

Lmao. Make the second week and then brag. The AAC already has a national champion. I wouldn't trade the AACs first two years with the NBE for anything. The new big east conference is getting a reputation... But, it isn't for relevance. Its for choking.

Yeah and the AAC's rep is getting screwed on Selection Sunday. Isn't that right SMU and Temple?

Better to have a rep for being screwed, because that's basically an acknowledgment of being deserving. SMUs and Temples runs in the other tournament backed it up.
Nobody is saying that the AAC invited ready-made programs into the conference. We all knew they were building. We broke in 3 new coaches in those programs last year.
What did you expect the RPIs to look like? That has no bearing on the guys they're getting on campus now, as opposed to who they were recruiting before.
Its not like we invited them into the conference because they still had a year of eligibility left on the greatest player in their schools history.
Were that the case, it sure would have been fun to watch Clyde and Hakeem in AAC action last year. That being said, expect Houston to turn some heads this year now that Sampson's SECOND class is on campus.
In the meantime, we'll just have to settle for Houston beating Louisville on the gridiron.

I'll restate it then.. they at least play to their seed... something Georgetown, Villanova and Creighton (at least in the past decade) have failed to do recently.
