I predict Ohio State fans will cheer for "Ohio" all day without any sense of self-awareness or irony.

as with most of these type of games it is imperative we do not let any kickoff or punt returns or pick 6s to happen. It took the wind out at Arkansas on the opening kickoff return for a TD.

The Buckeye game notes said they were 30-1 vs the MAC all time, who was that loss to? I cannot recall it.

I thought so too, I wonder if it is some really short-lived MAC member that we are forgetting.

I didn't realize they were in the MAC, but I see they were in the late 40's early 50's. It doesn't look like they beat Ohio State though, I think this must be a misprint and they are undefeated vs the MAC.

First year in 1904, they kicked it off playing a MAC team that season and beat Miami-OH 80-0 (they didn't have Ben RTB back then).

Here's their losses to mid-majors/no-namers (Not counting Chicago; they were part of the B10 before Mich State):

10/08/1921 - Oberlin (non-IA) L (6-7)
11/05/1927 - Princeton L (0-20)
10/28/1939 - Cornell L (14-23)
10/26/1940 - Cornell L (7-21)
10/09/1943 - Great Lakes Navy L (6-13) *Sure sounds like a MAC version of the Navy to me!
09/30/1950 - SMU L (27-32)
10/15/1955 - Duke L (14-20) *Okay, not a mid-major, but it's DUKE! In football! Fans not pleased, I'm sure
09/28/1957 - TCU L (14-18) *Maybe not a total mid-major at the time; figured I'd add it in just in case
12/27/1990 - Air Force L (11-23) [*Liberty Bowl; AF was 7-5]
09/12/1992 - BGSU W (17-6) *NOT a win; 1st Visible Modern-Day MAC game; BGSU was 10-2 that year

From there, no, OSU didn't lost to any MAC teams. Many close ones (Toledo, BGSU again in the year of the MAC of '03, Cinci)

Unless one of those no-namers was part of the MAC in those years, they didn't lose to a MAC team.

*No, they never beat Cinci. Cinci games were of: 1931, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2014 -- won them all

Massey has the head to head records for every team too, very awesome site. Ohio State is only 1-1 vs Iowa Pre-Flight School

Hey, in 2008 Ohio was up on the Buckeyes going into the 4th. In 2011, Toledo was down 5 in the final minute with the ball at the OSU 16 (failed on 4th down).

Somebody from the MAC will catch the Buckeyes one day (unless they stop scheduling MAC teams, which they probably will). I hope it's this Saturday.

Agree someone will catch them. OSU hasn't always had the weapons they do today at skill positions. And it's a lot about their style. They were a straight ahead, smashmouth team, protect qb go 1-1 with WR. Now they can do anything with Miller. Tough to matchup against that.

But if you can put some pressure on them defensively and score, I think they can get jitters just like anyone, as evident vs. VT. I think their QB doesn't get hurt they are in that thing til the end, maybe win with some luck. Guy wasn't a great qb by any means, but a baller. If Hare can do that, make them think, get some TOs could keep us in it. But that lackluster performance for 3 q vs Hawaii has to be on their minds. They have yet to put it together and I hope this isn't it.

Well, it's back-to-back MAC West opponents they face, this week and the next! Get the war paint ready! Or shall I say, the ink ready! 03-wink

Crazier things have happened in college football than Ohio State not coming out unscathed.

Since when does everything fall in-line with projections, right? That'd be weird. Who thought Toledo, without their #1 RB Hunt, and without their #2 RB, and I believe 1 or 2 starting defensemen, take out #18 Arkansas in Arkansas?

Very possibe, as the spirit of Diesel will be upon them all........

RE: NIU vs. #1 Ohio State Predictions
Ohio State lost to Akron in 1894. Akron was called Buchtel College and was coached by John Heisman.

In 1893, the college hired John Heisman to become the football and baseball coach. Heisman lead Buchtel to their first winning season with a 5-2 record in 1893, and then led them to their first undefeated season, albeit a single game season in which they defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes.[8] While at Buchtel, Heisman also helped invent the snap, which is still used in modern day football.[8] The early years for Buchtel saw many coaching changes, as the program went through 9 different coaches in the 22-year span.

Buchtel College changed its name to the University of Akron in 1913.[9]

For a prediction I'll go with 49-35.

Great info & trivia. However, it's questionable why it'd count as a loss to a MAC team... a combination of:

- It not being on record by most places (some places don't count team vs team pre-1900 of colleges by a completely different name?)
- It was Buchtel College, before being Akron (this means nothing purely by itself)
- It was in a season before last century, in a single-game "season"? (means little to nothing purely by itself)
- Butchel College was not part of the MAC, and the MAC did not exist then (the main point)

BUT, I will say two things, as this is all real interesting:

- Ohio State is undefeated against the MAC
- Ohio State has lost a game against a team that's currently in the MAC (who may change their name again - lol)

Interesting stuff!

We will have a crap ton of viewers...

@flasportsbuzz: ABC sending Ohio State-N. Illinois to 78 % of country & UM-Nebraska to only 22%. But those who don't get Canes on ABC get the game on ESPN2

Honestly I was expecting the numbers to be flipped.

Phew. I thought you meant Michigan-Nebraska. I'd be getting that one on the network channel on ABC in HD instead of viewing via ESPN3 in (albeit good) SD.

Yes, there's going to be A LOT of people watching. Probably because NIU's a 2nd-half team so it's good for ratings when they're the underdog -- it'll possibly get a little interesting deep into the 3rd Q! Good thinking ABC!
