Excuse my rant but I need closure from Saturday
Random thought dump that I need to get out. Please indulge me.

- Was much easier to enjoy Nippert as the the rain moved through before the game this week. Ushers did a good job of keeping fans moving and not just standing right behind the sections. A drunk girl kept kicking the back of my seat and she needed to be removed from the area, well done.

- Who would have thought the offense would be the main reason UC would lose a game? Really disappointed at Gunner's play. WRs dropped balls, RB fumbles, just looked outclassed in every way.

- Defense played pretty well despite the circumstances. Hard to stay pumped up when you're being asked to constantly bail out the offense.

- Special teams needs a lot of work. Not worried about the missed FG, that was a tough one. Not being prepared for the onside kick, Shaq seemed to call for fair catches pretty early several times when he could have made a decent return.

- 0-3 for CTT in conference openers. That's just unacceptable, especially in this new divisional format where losing to a divisional rival is so deadly.

- The rest of the season is playing for bowl eligibility unless you get lucky, which makes me very uneasy. In theory, UC could end the year 11-1 and still not make the conference championship game (won't happen, but you get my drift). Temple could lose a couple of games but I hate having to rely on that.

- Frustrated because the talent is there but the will to win is not. Think about it: they turned the ball over 5 times (eventually 6 plus the onside kick) and still came within a TD and 2 point conversion of going to OT. Will always make you wonder what could have been if there isn't some assistance or taking care of your own business.

- Student section was jam packed and full of energy. However, my seats are in 116 and are right next to the students. I overheard chants of "F^*k you Temple" many times, even before the game began. Come on people, we should be better than that. Besides, it's Temple! Not a huge rival, they've never done anything to invoke that kind of language and just makes UC look bad. I don't say I'm ashamed of UC often but I was definitely ashamed of that behavior.

- In a year where so much is going right for UC with Nippert reopening, basketball looking good and heading for a Fifth Third renovation, realignment talks still circulating; how can you lay an egg so badly and so early in the season? They'd better turn things around quickly and hope for a Temple loss or two because casual fan support is going to drop quickly after that embarrassment. The season is not lost but it certainly feels that way.

- I do have one final thought but that will be saved for another thread. I believe it deserves its own space.

Rant over. Enjoy your week. Go Bearcats.

Yeah I don't know where the "F Temple" came from. It would be one thing if we were playing a school nearby like Miami or Louisville, but there was zero heat with Temple going into the game. I was walking behind a group of students on Calhoun and their behavior was way the heck of out of line (mind you, this is coming from a guy who acted out of line many times as a student). When did our student body start acting like teams we despise? Maybe it is the result of 10 years of winning football?

I bolded your last paragraph because the same though ran through my head as well Saturday. If we don't take care of business against Miami and Memphis the attendance the rest of the way will go in the toilet big time. We will likely get some people in for the U regardless, but continue like its going and we will be lucky to get 20K for UConn and Tulsa.

Count me in as one who was thoroughly embarrassed by the profane student chant. After it happened several times, I was hoping there would be intervention, like an announcement or something.

I'm not a prude, but I think this was such a poor reflection on my alma mater.

Where did this even come from? I've been going to games at Nippert for decades and don't remember this happening, much less in unison from thousands. I think the Temple football team answered their chant quite well.

On another note, I hope I never see another thunder stick again. Even when UC had the ball, the student section was clapping nonstop. The young kid immediately in front of me had nothing better to do than hit those things together for the entire second half, which got pretty annoying after a while, especially when UC was self-destructing. Noise for the sake of noise.

Saturday was such an unpleasant experience; I am concerned about attendance going forward. The Miami game will be well-attended, but even that will be different after the Temple loss.

The student section as a whole needs alot of direction... doesnt help when the cheer/dance teams are holding signs up to make noise when we are on offense driving to the studetn section endzone... or the band finally plays down the drive when on offense in that end of the field... student section very very out of sorts for the whole game...

I realize I'm probably over-reacting, but that game was a miserable experience. We've been talking for months about how this could be a "special season". Well, after that loss...for me at least... this season doesn't feel special. It feels like more CTT mediocrity. And I imagine they'll get their butts kicked in a bowl if they make one.

And as I said in another thread - the student section was attempting to get "the wave" started while an opposing player was laying on the ground with a potentially serious neck injury. That was not good either.

Yes, the tone of the season has taken a very, very ugly turn. Very deflating. I think it might have helped had Tuberville provided a message that resonated with fans after that loss. If we can't win with THIS offense, what do we have to look for going forward?

With regard to the distasteful chant, I kept hoping that Tubbs would have a Sam Wyche moment and get on the PA to tell the students to cut it out because they go to UC, not Xavier.

The FU Temple chants were really uncool. Not that its ok other times but the kids are rolling that out against Temple?

I pray it did not make it to the audio of the telecast. Dr. Ono may want to address via an open letter, etc.

I thought it was awful as well. I mean, personally I don't find an FU chant ever really appropriate (well maybe I'd get a kick if it was a particularly bad Ref), but against Temple? Come on guys? I could forgive them maybe, if they brought Pepe Sanchez out on the floor or honored Bill Cosby, but short of that it seems like young kids being immature. So be it.

The Duke bball student section was chanting "BULLSH*T" at a ref and were told to stop or it would be a technical. They almost immediately started chanting, "WE STRONGLY DISAGREE" instead. Absolutely hilarious. THAT is a student section. Those kids come to play themselves.
