There is very little chance we would have drafted anything better than Weeden right now unless we use a high draft pick.

And wasting a high pick on a QB when you already have a franchise QB in his prime isn't really a sound football decision.

35 just isn't very old for a QB in 2015. These are Tony's prime years, he is at his peak. 2014 was the best season of his career.

would love for this to happen in 2 years after his senior season, Romo would then be 37. I see Dallas drafting a QB sooner rather than later

I have thought about this as well.

Romo has at least 3-4 more years of prime football, so they would be able to draft Lynch in 2017 and sit him for a year or two as the backup.

That formula worked wonders for Aaron Rodgers and Tony Romo. Both guys came out of the gate as polished, mature QB's when they finally took over as the starter. Of course Romo wasn't drafted, but he was slowly developed over 3 years before taking over as the starter, just like Rodgers. Both guys were able to essentially skip that dumbed down, robotic, ultra conservative playcalling stage most young QB's have to go through.

How perfect would that be for Paxton? Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Zach Martin, Ron Leary, La'el Collins will all be in their late 20's. Near the peak of their careers.

RE: Cowboys
Honestly, if Weeden plays solid football (not spectacular, just solid), he will probably get a nice contract extension.

The guy is 31 years old and has a ton of experience. Historically, the most effective backup QB's have been guys that were with the same team for several years in a row. Knowing the offensive system and playbook by heart goes a long way in the NFL.

Think Frank Reich, Jeff Hostetler, Gary Kubiak, Steve Bono, Doug Williams, Jason Garrett, even Jim McMahon in the second half of his career.

I would love to see Lynch drafted by the boys. He is raising his draft stock weekly, and having to train under Romo for a year or 2, he would only improve.

RE: Cowboys
Injuries and suspensions finally caught up with the cowboys today, which is what happens when you play a playoff caliber team like the falcons are this year.

With Randy Gregory, Jeremy Mincey, Greg Hardy and Rolando McClain all out, there is virtually zero pass rush, and you could see Matt Ryan get more and more comfortable as the game wore on. Even Orlando Scandricks replacement Tyler Patmon finally got burned on a long TD to Julio Jones.

Weeden played pretty good football, but this was a game we might still have lost even with Romo playing.

List of KEY players out today:

Tony Romo
Dez Bryant
Ron Leary
Randy Gregory
Jeremy Mincey
Greg Hardy
Rolando McClain
Orlando Scandrick
Terrell McClain

Of course, DeMarco Murray is in Philly, and he is injured too. lol

Anyone else see the pic of Bo Jackson in a Chicks uniform when they were discussing Weeden being a 2 sport draft pick?

Wee wee has glue on his shoes. Either that, or he thinks we have a kick a$$ offensive line. Some needs to teach him how to move. Pick up his feet and move.

So many injuries. SMH.
BUT......... Go Rangers!!

RE: Cowboys
Sean Lee missed the 2nd half with a concussion and Lance Dunbar may be gone for the year with a blown out knee. This is probably one of the most injury plagued seasons Dallas has experienced in team history.

SOME GOOD NEWS.......Cowboys defense will get a major boost with Rolando McClain and Greg Hardy joining the team this week.

Those are two of the most talented players on the entire team, and rookie DE sensation Randy Gregory may be back after the bye in 2 weeks.

The pass rush should be noticeably stronger from here forward, and now we FINALLY get to see Sean Lee and Rolando McClain on the field together. That should be an electrifying LB duo.

RE: Cowboys
The biggest issue right now outside of injuries is the running game. With Romo and Dez out, teams are just loading up the box and not really concerning themselves with the deep ball.

Weeden seemed to find some confidence in the 2nd half going down the field. He has a really strong arm, he should be able to make some big plays, though we can expect a few INT's in there too.

I think the staff has been a bit too conservative with Weeden (until the 4th quarter tonight). They need to let him take a few more shots down field to loosed up the run game.

Weeden has played really solid football, but we need to take a few more shots deep. If anything, just to keep the D honest.

RE: Cowboys
This is a really good lesson for some of the 'fantasy football' generation of fans out there today, who love to talk football but often have a very basic understanding of the game.

Even with a dominate OL filled with 1st round draft picks and talent, you still need some kind of threat in the passing game to open it all up.

First Ballot HOF'ers like Adrian Peterson may not need a good QB to loosen the defense up (though he's getting one now), but the rest of the mere morals need talent and BALANCE around them to be effective.

Randall is a good back, but he's no Adrian Peterson. Neither was DeMarco Murray, who would also be struggling right now if we had kept him. He would be a bit more effective than Randall, but the running game would still be a massive struggle right now.

What are defenses gameplaning around?

Romo? nope
Dez? nope
Weeden? hahaha
The running game? winner winner

RE: Cowboys
Dallas should already have had a QB succession plan in place. They won't go anywhere with Wheedon leading the way. We have to hope that he can win at least 2 or 3 games for us to have a shot at making the playoffs when Romo gets back.
They need to start looking at their next franchise QB in the draft...sooner rather than later...or we will be facing another coaching change in the near future.

Jerry should have drafted a QB two or three years ago, Romo gets hurt every year. He better draft one this year, and let them learn behind Romo, such as Rodgers did behind Favre.
