Supply vs. Demand. There hasn't been a demand for $40 tickets recently.

This program definitely deserves a full house. They've done everything possible in hopes of bringing UT football to where we have long hoped it to be.

Taking a look at the UT website and clicking on sections with tix available (Which excludes student sections, fan plan sections, and a couple other sections with no availability), I would guesstimate that there about 4000 tickets still remaining as of late Wednesday evening.

I thought it was just me, but the effort I saw in that game (from my living room) was much greater than I have seen in quite some time. Not intimidated in the least - and we may have a o-line that develops quickly. It looked pretty bad on the first position, but after that, they did not make many mistakes, and not sure they had a penalty after the 1st quarter. Our biggest question mark may be a non-issue (other than experience at the 2 deep).

It's difficult to get used to the higher cost of everything. One could say "except gas," but when I was starting out as a driver gas was anywhere from $.28 to $.38 a gallon. When it jumped to over $.70, almost over night, it was like a national emergency. Today, $1.89 seems like a steal. Compared to over $3.00, of course, it is (depending on who you believe is doing the stealing).

I was just checking out the single game ticket prices. For the ISU game, tickets are listed at $35-70. (Not sure you could even get the higher priced tix if you wanted them, but that's what it says.)

To a lot of people, $35 is a lot for a UT football ticket. In my mind, yeah, in a way it seems like it. But, have you bought a gallon of good paint lately? You can pay $30-$40 for a gallon of paint--which used to be about 12 bucks. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that you could get a gallon of good paint for 12 bucks, but lately I sleep more than I used to.

So, with that analogy, if you can get a ticket to a DI football game for the price of a bucket of paint, maybe the price is not so unreasonable after all. Two tickets would be around the price of a bucket of Midnight Blue and a bucket of Rocket Gold.

GO ROCKETS!

SEE YOU AT THE GAME.

first, if that hideous tv spokesmodel woman is still doing those live timeout segments on the jumbotron we will lose half the casual fans who come to the game. i find her and everyone involved with her presence personally responsible for half the attendance issues.

second, some folks on this board are doing ok financially and $35-40 bucks isn't bad for a big game, but remember that we are in a prolonged period of declining real wages for many workers. plenty of folks working hard but not getting paid much and dropping $40 plus at least $20 for a beer, hot dog and parking is a lot on a tight budget. the fan plan addresses some of this, but the challenge is how do you get out the local folks who like football, but aren't focused rocket fans and have limited funds. something creative like a $10 halftime general admission entry might bring in new fans and help fill in seats that open up as the game goes on.

If you're crafty enough you can get free parking. Eat dinner before you come to the game and you won't need to pay a dime on overpriced concessions.

Any one have an update on the ticket situation? I love to see this game be north of 25,000.

RE: Iowa State Attendance
I understand that some may think that $35 or $40 for a UT Football ticket is not that much. My thought on ticket prices are that first off you have to create a good game experience. In my opinion Toledo and whoever is in charge of the game day experience does not do a good job for a number of reasons. Having things to do before and after games (concerts, a large place with a couple big screen that shows other games before and after the Toledo game that serves adult beverages, food etc, having some sort of event before games for families etc). The lines to get a pop, beer or food is always extremely long and to be honest the food is overpriced typically cold and tastes awful. The ushers need some new direction, they take their jobs way to serious and are not friendly with fans. It would be smart after the first quarter (if there are empty seats) to allow fans to get closer to the field which will look better on TV and those people may pay the extra money in the future to get closer seats. Being that you can watch almost every Toledo game on TV or on ESPN3 online you need to give people another reason to get out and enjoy the game day experience. There are only a handful of home games during the year and unless Toledo becomes a powerhouse the 2/3 full stadium is going to continue. I also think that Toledo does a poor job with marketing to local business and the average fan. Sure the commercials are nice, but there has to be some other ways to attract attention and get more butts in the seats.

I drive 8 hours one way, a couple times a year , to attend Rocket games. I do not need any incentives to attend. UT is my team, and I will support them no matter the cost.

RE: Iowa State Attendance
In my eyes at least, we're playing a winnable home game against a team from a conference that a lot of us would like to see us making steps toward becoming a member, one week after this team gave us a gigantic reason to get excited about Rocket Football. They could make fart noises during all the timeouts and play stoppages for all I care. The game should sell itself. The problem is maintaining a similar level of interest for the dud home games like the EMU's and the Kent States. I wasn't even inside the stadium for 30 seconds before getting outraged that Gino's Pizza is now asking $7 for their tiny ass, 2-bite slice of pizza when we're playing Stony Brook. What is this, Disney World??? I love Gino's Pizza but insulting my intelligence is a quick way of downgrading that love into a like.

So the Fire Marshal won't let us put temporary bleachers in the south concourse area anymore. Could we put food trucks there instead? So many options to improve the concession situation that MANY have complained about. Instead of welcoming the Niu Huskies to the Glass Bowl on a late Tuesday night by playing "Who Let the Dogs Out", how about we have dollar 'dog night and eat 'em up? I'd participate for sure, and I'm sure I can't be the only one!

LOL! Dollar hot dog 'Chomp a dog' night. I like ideas like that.

Maybe it's time to move away from the popcorn, peanuts, & cracker jacks model since it isn't 1960 anymore. Hawk that stuff from grandstand isles. Why should people have to stand in lines for that? Upgrade the concession booths so they can prepare and serve real food.

Last Fall I went to one of the high school playoff games and there was a guy who had a portable rig set up under the bleachers where he sold grilled to order gyros. I didn't get one myself, but they looked delicious. The line was long and he was sellin' 'em as fast has he could make 'em.

I noticed last year at the GB there was a vendor setup in the south-west corner of the concourse that looked to be selling grilled brats or something. I wonder how he did. If he did well it proves that people would buy real food. I too was appalled at the rice krispy square size of the pizza. What a total rip. I've been at games where they sold fresh pizza that was a reasonable sized slice. We have local vendors that make all kinds of good food.

I realize that the university has (or had) a contract with some vending company to provide food for the whole campus, which includes the GB and supposedly they can provide "anything." Whatever, but I agree the stadium food situation could really use some upgrading. They should set something up outside the stadium, too. Yes, there are tailgaters that bring food, but no everybody can tailgate in Lot 10.

They were supposed to have great new food and carts in the concourses when Savage was renovated. Never happened. If the food were better I think attendance would go up.

Based on all of this attendance talk, and others perusing the ticket site to see how many are left, what should we expect to see tomorrow?

I'm guessing a full student section curling around to the east side, and very sparse everywhere else. Probably 19K?

Had some more food theme ideas:

When the mongrels come to town: Hushpuppies
When the bird themed teams come: Boneless wings
Especially for BG week: Pumpkin ice cream with hot fudge and nuts!
