What a sham that a 1-1 Michigan team with a win over a horrible Oregon state team is getting votes.

Also 29 votes in the AP poll, good for 30th place. http://collegefootball.ap.org/poll

RE: UT Gets Points in Coaches' Poll
Is this the earliest in the season that the Rockets ever got votes in the polls?

No chance. We still have to hope teams like byu and boise lose. They play awesome schedules. Lets take it one at a time. BG looks like an offensive juggernaut. Most likely we'd have to beat em twice. Toledo has lots of above average g5 games left.

The only important thing is Iowa State next week. Nothing else.

RE: UT Gets Points in Coaches' Poll
boise lost late last night to byu on another hail mary play, i don't know if byu is eligible for the playoff. i thought it was decided among the G5 champions... they play at ucla and michigan the next 2 weeks so if they can win those after opening w wins over nebraska and boise i'd say they deserve to be in not just the new years bowl picture but the 4 team playoff conversation. alongside bg and western i don't see anyone opening w tougher bunch of games, g5 or p5

Memphis is good w 5 road games against decent comp to go and home games w ole miss and cincy, BG is good w purdue and memphis plus toledo and mac to go, if NIU is competitive with OSU and runs the table they would get a look, temple has wins over penn st and cincy and a lot of weak to average opponents on their schedule plus home games w memphis and notre dame to make a statement. ohio looks solid early and has a pretty easy schedule outside of marquee road games at minnesota, bg and NIU.

based on early indications, the G5 new years bowl team will likely be chosen from whoever above can run the table or survive w a single loss. the rockets need to beat iowa state, win the mac and have arkansas get it's act together enough to win a few sec games. the rockets could survive a loss and still go to a new years bowl if the above happens. regardless, no one can take away the feeling of going into a traditional sec power (basically any sec team not names kentucky or vandy) and getting the win. boise was chosen for the g5 new year's bowl team last year in part on having a competitive loss against an sec west team.

...for the players. Us fans can talk about whatever we want, because it won't have an effect on the outcome of the game.

I think that you are right. When BYU went independent I think that their forfeited their chance at the "access" bowl which as I also understand is just for members of the G5.

Really way too soon to be thinking about the access bowl but Arkansas was the consensus choice as the most difficult game on the UT schedule going into the season, so unless or until the Rockets stumble that prospect is still out there.

we won the game we needed to win to even have this conversation, so good times. i'm sure we are up for iowa st. what worries me is if we win that and let down vs ark st. they almost upset missouri at home, played decent at usc and have a lot of playmakers on offense, plus some hostility from last year's bowl loss. that will be a tough one.

Arkansas State is definitely a trap game. They'll be ready.

Yep! They will be ready. One game at a time-next up the Cyclones who have some very good receivers.

We still have to play a game in that wretched town in Indiana too. Records out the window every single time.

Yep, Lazard is a name I remember learning to dislike from the ISU announcers. The 4 star frosh WR burned us on many key plays as I recall. Watch out for this guy!

Muncie has been especially toxic for the Rockets when they have gone in there with a national ranking. Although the Rockets have already won what everyone figured was going to be their toughest game of the season, every game remaining on the schedule (with the possible exception of Kent State) is a potential lost waiting to happen.
