Boise St and CCU similar maybe?
I kinda see some similarities.
Both schools are very aggressive when it comes athletics.
Boise is twenty years ahead of CCU of course but athletics are viewed as the way to grow. Both get a decent amount of out of state students CCU especially.

I believe Boise moved up with blue turf and twenty six thousand seats.
From what i am hearing CCU will have twenty six thousand seats and teal turf.
Academically they are rated about even and both have made strides.
Boise until recently had a dual role as a junior college.
Coastal has a junior college next door with five thousand students.
Coastal was a branch of USC about twenty years ago.

Coastal has a more well rounded athletic program .
They are really good in baseball, golf and soccer .
Football has won pretty much from day one .

Boise was a good FCS program six Big Sky titles in twenty six years.
Since joining FBS Boise has been the most successful G5 program.
Spent a bunch of money on facilities with three hundred million in facility debt.
I didn't research the debt part it shows commitment is the point.

CCU has all new facilities and will most likely host a bowl game in the near future.

Now CCU may end up sucking and struggle in FBS.
The similarities are
1. commitment to athletics
2.A shade of blue turf
3.Most likely host a bowl game
4. starting out with about the same size stadium.
5.Both schools are academically disrespected but it doesn't matter.

RE: Boise St and CCU similar maybe?
I would give Coastal a ceiling comparable to Northern Illinois - clearly the #3 school in the state (Illinois and Northwestern:Clemson and South Carolina), but without any meaningful non-P5 competition. Coastal may eventually obtain more because of their location in spite of their lack of history in football. Boise State is different in that they are #1 in their state (albeit a small state) despite not being a P5 program.

If Conference USA or even the AAC has any openings in the next decade, Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern (who I would identify as Georgia's version of Northern Illinois, even though Georgia State has the better media market) could stand to improve their position greatly. I don't think either can go to a Power Conference unless if they string together 2-3 seasons of 11+ wins and start averaging over 50,000 in attendance.

another similarity: Boise joined the lowest rated FBS conference at the time in the Big West. Coastal will join what many consider to be the lowest rated FBS conference of today, the Sun Belt.

Idaho was an original member of the PAC 12 in the old days. Idaho is ranked #1 in the state of Idaho in academics. Since Idaho have been struggling to get noticed except for them to be sucking, some of the research dollars have been going to Boise State where they have been slowly getting research facilities up. Hence Boise State have became #1. 30 to 40 years ago, Boise State would have been considered #3 school in the state of Idaho.

I think coastal could be a monster. I look for their recruiting to go way up now that they are FBS and enrollment to soar. Myrtle Beach is a good place to go to college

I am not sure what you are trying to say.
The only academic angle is they are both rated between 600 -650 by US news.
That and the fact both spend more on athletics compared to their budgets than anyone.
Athletics are looked at as the way forward pulling in students and money.
The academics will rise because of the money and students pulled in by athletic success.
MWC fans and Sun Belt fans look down on both schools academics.
I probably shouldn't have mentioned academics .
I was trying to.point out the commitment to sports being almost out of wack vs other schools.
I believe I read BSU is the fifth rated university in Idaho.
The most popular to be sure .

Coastal has the advantage of recruits vacationing here as kids and loving it. I think CCU could be a strong program.
Branding is a big similarity both are good at it.
How much that effects fans and recruiting.is hard to tell but it doesn't hurt.

Boise was brilliant with the blue turf, but that is old hat now. colored fields wont sell kids now. Boise caught lightning in a bottle, that is very rare. Not likely to happen again in our lifetime.

I mean in their approach and at the point when they moved up.
Obviously Boise state is twenty years ahead.
Coastal has about the same number of conference titles in ten years of FCS.
Compared to twenty six years for BSU.
I know BSU has grown a lot since moving up.
What was the enrollment at that time?
