I'm with you Billy. I think Miami is going to be a borderline top 25 caliber team, with the potential to be a little better than that. It will be a major test for UC.
I don't believe anyone feels Miami is terrible or a fluff team by any means. However, they seem to have some hype surrounding them year after year. I believe they were only picked to finish 3rd in their division by the ACC coaches preseason poll. So, they're not exactly favored to win the ACC.
I watched most of their game last night and I don't think the final score tells the entire story. The game was tied 20-20 into the third quarter. FAU played their second string QB who saw his first live action ever in a college football game for most of the game. FAU also gave Miami the gift of five turnovers - 3 fumbles and 2 picks.
I realize they beat us last year pretty good but we're talking about this year now. I remember several years ago I attended the Cincy-NC State game in Raleigh. They beat us pretty good that night. However, we kicked 'em even better at the Nip the following year.
Can Miami come in and beat us in the Nip? Of course. However, the jury is still out on Miami as well for our Bearcats. Time will tell. Again, it is the body of work that tells the truth and good teams can still struggle especially on the road to get a win.
The bottom line for me is if we're favored to win our conference then I hope we can set the bar a little higher this year to feel we can beat a team like Miami in our house. With all due respect, Florida State they aren't.
