@WarOnDumb 2/2) the Alabama Law Institute The language from a 2014 law, the Law Institute felt, needed clarifying The law prohibits lobbying

Kyle Whitmire ‏@WarOnDumb 2h2 hours ago
.@repjack Sorry but that doesn't wash. Just admit someone gave you a bill to sponsor and you didn't read it.

Jack Williams ‏@repjack 2h2 hours ago
@WarOnDumb I did read it.And I spoke to John about it. 36-25-1.1 prohibits elected officials from lobbying John knew it & didn't disclose it

@WarOnDumb @repjack If you want it to mean what you say it means, change to "former and current legislators" otherwise what's the point?

Given the bill's rather short length I tend to agree, but perhaps this is the 68th bill he has worked on with this group, never had an issue before, trusted them, and just got caught out... they may not have realized their mistake either.

So, careless - perhaps... unforgivable... no. Not if he explains, retracts, and resubmits the right one.

His enemies will make it unforgivable. His opponent in the next election, backed by the BOT and the Machine will have a field day, despite what explanation he makes.

IF Jack has sponsored this bit of trash he's part of the problem not the solution. Its puzzling because I don't understand what would be in it for him

Man, why do I keep thinking Jack is doing this as a favor to help out UAB Football in some way?

Because Hubbard controls the House and this Bill is tailored for him and his legal battles?

Like minds. I also have a nagging feeling that the whole lowball offer to HCBC was a distraction from the governor's problems while they get all their ducks(AKA NDAs) in order. But, then again, I'm a conspiracy theorist...

Yep. Then Hubbard (theoretically) helps Jack with BOT bills next session.

Would also save the governor and, indirectly, shield the BOT...

It's possible. We've had four ham-fisted acts in rapid succession that are either monumentally stupid or designed to get a reaction from us and the local media: the "liaison committee," the student vote, the lowball offer and today's firings of loyalists. While the Watzis often go off script, that letter from Smithers took language directly from the Sard Verbinnen playbook which hints that a paid hack wrote it for them.

You're not a "conspiracy theorist" when it's been proven that a conspiracy exists. You are a Conspiracy Realist.

If you are correct, they're scared about a lot more than a sex scandal.

Jack was Already owned lock stock and $$$ by Hubbard. He attended the original press conference the day after the incitement and was one of the few with nerve to speak. It did not work last time with Hubbard - money talks to the Riley bunch - see anti gambling financed by porch creek Indians

I am afraid that the UASBOT will always out bid us. But again Jack is our crook

When Jack was Tax Collector of Jefferson County for 8 years, he made a practice of buying up delinquent taxes personally. When he got to the legislature, he got it formalized and went into big business.

Scrushy was only pro-UAB if it benefited HealthSouth in some way. I would have loved to have a stadium if he could have provided a way with good money. Too bad his money was dirty.

Scrushy was instrumental in getting rid of AD Herman Frazier, possibly the stupidest human being ever to draw breath on this Earth,

Nope Ray Watts, and Mark Ingram fill the bill as Herman did at one time.

Williams has made way too many enemies with his support of UAB. This is either extremely unforgivable carelessness are brazen greed on Williams part. Mistakes like this is going to be exploited by his enemies. I am surprised that Archibald is the one to do it.

The last huge supporter of UAB was Richard Scrushy. Hope Jack has his nose clean.

He made a lot of "clean money." Unfortunately, he got greedy.

I believe Scrushy was on the board for a short time before everything unraveled at HS. He also made a $1m pledge to UAB athletics, but I don't think he fullfilled his pledge.

Scrushy was indeed on the Board of Trustees at one point. He also did make some donations that eventually were fulfilled. The School of Health Professions Building used to be the Richard M. Scrushy Building.

I don't know that Richard attended UAB, but an article during his trial said that his only Post Secondary degree was from a JUCO and was in Physical Therapy. He had to be among the most successful "PTs" in history. It was indicated that his business acumen came from his father who was a very successful businessman. Richard's brother Gerald worked for him but was never linked to any of the charges.
