CUSA game on FS1 broadcasted from LA Studio and what it may mean for the AAC
http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/fs1-is-t...the-studio

With B1G in play and CUSA having even less leverage than past contract talks I think this might be a sign that FS1 is mailing in the remainder of their CUSA contract and won't renew it or have most of the games on RSNs and FS2 leaving room for B1G.

If that happens then ESPN would have more room (including more prime slots) for the AAC.

At what point do they stop sending cameramen and just ship a box of drones to the stadium?

IIRC ESPN did this with some basketball broadcasts last season...

I think ECU vs UH was live from the studio.

A LOT more basketball inventory than football. This was FS1's only live event last night.

Frankly, it works much better for basketball than football. You don't need to see the whole court for basketball--half court is generally adequate. For football, the TV view either shows the line of scrimmage and behind it, or the down field view---but never both. That makes it hard for a commentator to add much insight from the studio. It might work better if the color guy has a 22 man wide angle view---then he might be able to add some insight while the play-by-play just sticks to describing the action.

Fox Sports is probably losing money so they are trying to cut corners where they can. Conference like C-USA they can get away with it.

This is an idea so old it's new. decades ago, long before television and cable, major league baseball games were broadcast from a studio, using atmosphere special effects. The game action was being transmitted (I assume by ticker) to the studio where the announcer had to add lib much of the action. See "The Sting" for a horse race version.

That was appropriate because there was nobody at the actual venue either.

Plus it's the same size crew for a 2 hour broadcast, versus football which is a 3.5 hour broadcast and usually more viewership.

I watched the WKU and LA Tech last night. The announcer were in LA, and they did a sucky poor job, in my opinion. 07-coffee3

Truth. I'd prefer to hear Marc Daniels. That would actually be the cheapest option. Present the broadcast with the choice of the two broadcast teams.
Problem is, they wouldn't constantly pimp sportscenter or whichever NFL game they're showing that week.

Same. I was watching the VT/OSU game and was going back and forth between listening and muting it. Not hearing the crowd and on field action is a bummer though. If there were an option just to mute the announcers I'd be happy.

I don't find that most announcers add anything to my enjoyment and somewhat frequently lessen it. Then you have some of those low crew on the totem poll announcer tandems doing ECU or AAC or C-USA games who are just getting stuff completely wrong left and right and I spend half the game correcting people who can't here me like a crazy person.
