RE: Rice to host cross-country on Friday evening
Women will be running 4260 meters, while the men will run 5540.

There also is a "yahoo" race open to anyone, to start at 5:50. A certain track announcer is expected to enter, hoping just to avoid last place.

All of this weather permitting.

Lamar's men's team relies on foreigners, with 3 from England, 2 from Scotland, and 1 each from Ireland, Italy and Germany. Their women's team has 2 from England, and 1 each from Scotland and Germany. Their most talented runner on the women's side, though, may be Evelyn Chavez, a sophomore from Porter, Texas. She and Verity Ockenden (England) will lead their team. The men's team will be led by freshman Gabriel Steffanson (don't know where he's from) and Alex Dunbar (England).

McNeese State men are led by Oliver James (England) and Enoch Bor (Kenya).

Houston's men are led by the outstanding junior Brian Barraza (El Paso) and Yonas Tesfai (Houston Westbury).

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has Philipp Baar (Germany) and Valentinas Rudys (Lithuania) to lead the way.

Louisiana-Lafayette relies on three Louisiana runners - Matt Rice, Beau Robinson and Bryce Robinson.

Rice men

The Owls return a very strong team for 2015 - one that might contend for a C-USA championship, even against the Kenya-led teams from UTEP and Middle Tennessee.

Rice is led by 5th year senior Will Firth, who was the Owls' top runner last season. Harry Sagel, Imran Bell, Brad Dohner, Steve Booker, along with steeplechasers Griffin Lee and Marco Ruiz give the Owls unusual and quality depth. Freshman Connor Meaux, one the top high school runners in Texas last year, may not be needed to contribute in 2015.

Rice women

Rice will be led by defending C-USA champion Cali Roper, who should be primed for another outstanding season. Katie Jensen and Elsa Racasan will be a year stronger, as the three could place among the leaders in C-USA when that meet takes place in late October. I also look for good things from Ellen Diemert, Hannah Kay and Abigail Cartwright. Eleanor Wardleworth, along with the Wassef twins (Audrey and Chrissy) add depth to the team.

Cali Roper and Elsa Racasan finished 1-2 in the women's race. I think that Brad Dohner was the first Owl in the men's race (around 10th). Harry Sagel did not run. It looked to me that Lamar won the men's title, but I haven't had time to look (I'm still recovering from my race) ....

Don't forget to mention that Sagel is British (via Spain), and Racasan (France), Wardlesworth (Australia), Diemert (Canada) and Molly Tilbrook (Australia) are all out-of-country products for the Owls. Great to see such diversity across cross country teams!
