2015 Fall Enrollment
Texas State typically waits a few weeks into the semester to announce the official enrollment. It was released today as 38,006, 3.4% increase from last fall. This is the 18th consecutive year that the enrollment has increased.

The University received 27,000 applications last May, a 13% increase from the year before.

I bet adding a certain fall sport would help those application numbers even more...

RE: 2015 Fall Enrollment
The only D1 men's soccer team in Texas is SMU...and they don't sponsor baseball...

I really doubt that Texas State will:

1. strive to be the 2nd school in Texas to sponsor men's soccer
2. drop baseball to pick up men's soccer
3. voluntarily sponsor 2 more sports (another women's sport to offset Title IX)
4. sponsor men's soccer before men's lacrosse

Oh, I was assuming he thought you were a UTA fan, and implying that adding football would increase enrollment.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Had to work last night and the caffeine hadn't kicked in yet today. Sorry about the derailment...

Correction.

That 16,055 figure was last year's (2014) fall enrollment, This year's (2015) is reported to be 16,462.

Check the date of the article in your link.

Just a minor correction. There are three more D-I universities in Texas sponsoring men's soccer. They are Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, and UTRGV (as of 2015). They all compete in the WAC. (All three sponsor baseball.) Incarnate Word is still transitioning from D-II to D-I, but they are a D-I counter for sports. The other two are D-I.

They might make sense to compete as Sun Belt affiliates if Hartwick, Howard, and NJIT leave the Sun Belt.

Sorry for the derailment.

Just thought the omission of three Texas D-I programs was interesting when one of the Sun Belt Soccer affiliates is a D-III program in all sports except Men's Soccer and Women's Water Polo.

Back to the topic, the enrollment increases are great. To recap, we have the following so far.

Texas State: 38,006 - a 3.4% increase
South Alabama: 16,462 from last year's 16,055.

Arkansas State's enrollment is 13,410, a 2% increase from last year. This increase bucks the trend of two years in a row of a decline in enrollment.

When USA builds their proposed on-campus stadium, I believe not only an increase in attendance will occur, but the enrollment will also soar to new heights.

Not to be a stick in the mud, but there is no causation or even correlation link to football and enrollment. Georgia State, for example, has steady steady and is around 32,000, and staying on the same curve as before. Same thing at FIU, FAU, Lamar, Southeastern Louisiana, etc.

There was predicted doom for UTA when they dropped the program in the mid-80's. UTA and UNT had near the same enrollment then and now and they mirrored each other through the years. UTA's enrollment grew every year for five years after dropping it, started a decline that was seen nationally and occurring nationally as well. It picked back up near the turn of the century, and like Texas State, has seen growth every year since, I believe, 1998.

I'm a proponent of adding the sport, but let's not make claims that have no statistical or researched backing.
