RE: 2015 Master Plan Draft
Looks like there are areas where an OCS can go, I see 3 softball fields and 4 generic practice fields

Yeah, I think we're in a dust storm right now and when this stuff clears up and I fully expect it to the Master Plan should reflect the OCS and/or the IPF.

RE: 2015 Master Plan Draft
There are plans for making some of the 4 lane streets into 2 lanes with a tree median and bike lanes. Looks good.

RE: 2015 Master Plan Draft
Modifiable Space where the initial OCS was planned is still there for the OCS,,,, Just dig up some grass and plan some steel and concrete there surrounding a new bunch of lovely green bermuda/tift mix

The "Athletics" section is on page 19. In the picture, the various sports fields are noted as such, with the obvious omission of no field or building is labeled for football.

Boy, that document is so depressing. Forget about the football stuff, it's just so less ambitious overall than the Master Plan that Carol Garrison left for Watts. BTW, usually there's 10 years or so between master plans. The last one UAB did was 2013.

A little research reveals that there have been updated Master Plans in 1977, 1983, 1996, 2001, 2004, 2010/11, 2013 & 2015. 8 times in 39 years (at the least) that's an average update every 4 years 10½ months. In the 21st century that average drops to a 3 year average.
The point being, Master Plans are temporary ideals that NEVER come to fruition. A minuscule percentage of anything proposed on a master plan ever progresses past the "dream" stage.

RE: 2015 Master Plan Draft
I'm sorry, but wake up guys. This is what is being proposed as of SEPTEMBER 10, 2015... UAB Football was reinstated JUNE 1, 2015... open your eyes:
They wiped any sign of UAB Football off the map.
E-mail MasterPlan@uab.edu with your suggestions and complaints before Sept. 23 to let your voice be heard.

Just another sign that the powers that be don't plan on us taking the field in 2017.

RE: 2015 Master Plan Draft
To be quite honest, football isn't my biggest worry right now. It's going to come back. Everyone biggest worry should be Ray Watts. There should be an outcry for students, faculty, city officials, and supporters going to Montgomery to get Ray Watts out of office.

Makes total sense to have three softball fields.

When you view the whole map (page 12) it has a new building next to Wallace Gym instead of that parking lot.

RE: 2015 Master Plan Draft
Is this due to the BJCC facility that is in discussions for UAB to use instead of an OCS?

RE: 2015 Master Plan Draft
There is no football building on the newly proposed athletic/intramurals map... not even the existing one.
The extra softball fields are for intramurals. Setting up softball fields on the soccer field just doesn't cut it.
The tennis facility will be a great addition to campus and the B'ham area as a whole, but it is currently planned to go smack dab in the middle of the past location for an OCS. If they build the tennis facility they say they want, it won't be something you just raze & relocate.

RE: 2015 Master Plan Draft
Just to be clear, this is not great news, and the Board is still obviously putting up road blocks, but if they vote on this it's not set in stone. Several buildings that exist on the UAB campus were not on the master plan in effect when they were built. It can and will be amended as actual projects come up.
