Calkins: Honoring Calipari is "a miserable" idea (CA)
On his show Calkins said he thinks there might be a 'back story' we're not aware of --. Calkins / Martin said that they think Rudd is aware of fan sentiment --- see Rudds' (Calipari related) tweet re 'plastic knives and forks and sitting at the big table' just a couple of months ago --- so there's something else happenin here - in their opinion. Anyway here's the article from late on the 9th

There better be something else happening here. If not, the absolute WORST idea ever from our administration.

Horrible idea and it makes no sense at all. Why would Rudd do this unless there was something else working?

“Memphis would boo his dead body.”

Okay, that was funny.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what Rudd is thinking with this.

I get "staking our claim" to part of a Hall of Fame coach's career. But IMO, do it along with honoring the entire 2008 team, or after Cal retires from coaching altogether. The fact that UMass is honoring him the week before should have zero bearing on what we do.

Calkins said that *IF* that's his goal Calipari can charm anyone. That if Calipari wants you to like him you will eventually like him. With that, Calkins did suggest that there are a number of rich supports of the Memphis program who like "John." Calkins wondered if this might be a factor in all of this. Who knows --

Maybe the plan is to invite him in to "punk" him?

Make it look like we are honoring him and dump a giant load of Sno-Cone mix on his head, in the middle of the Forum.

I'm willing to give Dr. Rudd the benefit of doubt based on his desire to do what is best for our University and our athletics program - particularly getting us into a power conference and the dramatic support he has given to the football program. Let's see how this plays out.

I wish they would have waited until the day before the game. I was hoping to score some free tickets from the posters not going to the game.
