It has ties with the alma mater and I seriously think we as a fan base should be getting more use out of "Old Dominion Hail". It sounds powerful, royal, and prestigious.

We are monarchs is original to odu because no one else is chanting MONRCHS.

Va tech does lets go Hokies. Marsha does we are Marshall. Georgetown does Hoya saxa.

Countless other schools do similar chants to these. The only truly original chant in all of college football is whoever did it first.

Ours will be original because we will be the only ones chanting we are monarchs.

Please do this before the game and disregard the naysayers. The vast majority of fans support this just like they supported the cannon.

I didn't think about Marshall when i typed my post, but i don't think they do that BEFORE games, as in during the introduction (someone check that). Penn State uses it, plenty of others do too as a school chant. But when I first came to ODU and attended basketball games the Ted Heads would always yell "WE ARE!" to the student section, and we would yell "MONARCHS!" back. That was our thing, at least to me it was. When I was a cheerleader we used signs to break up the crowd to do that same chant along with our Blue/White chant. It sounds great and is a great rally call for the students/fans.

I am opposed to "Let's Go... Monarchs" up until Crazy Train plays simply because it is a complete copy of VT. I know they say Hokies and we would say Monarchs and we use two different songs, but its not about the words, it about what we do. I'm not opposed to splitting the crowd up for an chant, when its done well it sounds beautiful. I just don't want to literally copy the words and actions of another school across the state

Yes most schools use some form of chant with crowd involvement to do one thing......get the people in the stands INVOLVED !!!
I like ...let's go ...Monarchs...but will participate with anything that is started. The cheerleaders need to start this when they are lined up with the band down the field.

Really need a tradition for the start of the 4th quarter.....maybe raising the 12th Monarch Flag with a Howitzer ka boom when it reaches the top !!!

I agree with the above suggestion, for years we did "BLUE" "WHITE". The cheerleaders even had signs. We could certainly bring that back. It was pretty good when people participated.

I agree with you RR! Thank you Dr. Chandler for your efforts to accomodate our fan requests as expressed here. I know we don't all agree with the form it should take, but I'm sure the majority of posters here join me in appreciating your openness and attention. I look forward to making the "We Are" ---- "Monarchs" crowd roar come to life. I'm sure that if we can get the crowd behind it we will experience a greatly enhanced amount of ODU pride. Thanks again.

One other thing. If and when the wave gets started, it should never be while we are on offense. It should primarily be when the other team is on O. It's very distracting and that is half the point of it. Distract them, not us.

Then repeat a few dozen times...
The key will be making sure we clearly cheer that possessive "S".
