Yeah the Governor is an OG or should I say PIMP! He wasn't concerned about UAB's welfare because he was chasing skirts in the gump05-nono

RE: Message From Allen Bolton Regarding Student Fee Vote
Nothing in Bolten's letter says 1. Who set the referendum or 2. That the referendum is required.

From the fact that the USGA opposes the referendum, it had to be someone in the administration requesting it, probably Bolton, since he wrote the response.

Someone needs to ask him on the record point blank if he's the one pushing for it & ask him to cite the requirement for it.

He carefully crafted the response to infer it's required, but stopped well short of any citation of authority.

So Smithers is calling Garret Stephens a liar.

Allen Bolton needs to resign immediately. It is absolutely unacceptable for a university official to sign his name to something this loathsome, no matter what paid PR agent wrote it and placed it in front of him.

Now that we have UAB officials saying that it was not required...what is to keep the USGA from canceling the vote?

RE: Message From Allen Bolton Regarding Student Fee Vote
The last 2 sentences of that Boulton "Notification" are very troubling:
"We are not setting a precedent where every student fee increase gets (or requires) a vote by the student body. This is a special circumstance where such funding is critical to the establishment of a program that student leaders consider important to the student body."

The funds to be provided from the student fee increase should not be considered "Critical to the Establishment of a program,,,,,,," Funds already raised and committed by many other sources should be quite sufficient to justify RE-Establishment of our Programs of Football, Rifle and Bowling!! It would appear to be quite disingenuous for Boulton ( apparently one of the financial geniuses who advised for the destruction of these programs in the first place ) to now place the spectre of UAB perhaps not being able to , in fact, move forward with football, etc.

I wonder if this statement was prepared prior to the USGA comments being publicized. Gotta think it was, given the opposition's issues with keeping up in the social media era.

In Scarbinksky's latest article we now see a "no vote, no fee" stance from Watts/BOT.

I hope everyone goes back and rereads this whole thread. You can see some of the problems we have when it comes to deciding who to blame.

The reality is you have the USGA President saying one thing, the UAB VP of Finance saying something different, FOX6's Alan Collins (just the worst at Twitter) reporting other info, and a few fans on a message board getting mad at Wes Smith who has nothing to do with this at all.

It's a messed up situation... let's not make it worse on ourselves.

Attributed to USGA President Garrett Stephens in conversations he had with Watts in June and early August.

How can it be both "standard operating procedure" and an "increasingly common national trend"

RE: Message From Allen Bolton Regarding Student Fee Vote
Did Allen Bolton consider East Tennessee State's comeback before citing 'precedent' ?

Their SGA voted a $25/semester fee for a stadium, no vote of the student population.

RE: Message From Allen Bolton Regarding Student Fee Vote
If this referendum happens, then a referendum should take place for every type of student fee increase. I can guarantee you that if the referendum were to fail the BOT will use that as ammunition but if the students voted down an increase in tuition we would never hear about it from the administration because they wouldn't care. This cycle has to be broken some how some way. UAB & UAH cannot continue down this road. It's clear to me that UAB requires it's own Board of Trustees or this university will be torn apart by people with dual loyalties. Having its own BOT solves this problem because either you're in or you're most definitely out.

RE: Message From Allen Bolton Regarding Student Fee Vote
One thing is perfectly clear - When Watts is shown the door, or walks through it of his own volition, there are others in the administration who need to follow closely behind - Bolton is an obvious candidate.

It is a well known phenomenon that under pressure people show either their best qualities or their worst qualities. UAB faculty members and students such as Frank Messina, members of the Faculty Senate, the past and present USGA Presidents, Anjali Wagle and Garrett Stephens, and others have shown their mettle under fire.

On the other hand the present situation has revealed the true dark characters of some members of the administration such as Shirley Khan, Becky Watson, Clay Ryan (a hired gun) and perhaps Mark Ingram (still to be determined, but certainly not headed in the right direction). They, and others of their ilk, need to also be targets of a thorough house cleaning when Watts is gone.

Feel free to add other candidates who should also be shown the door.
