Best info yet on LU and the Sunbelt
https://m.soundcloud.com/va-talk-radio-n...rning-show

Basically said 3 presidents refused to vote for a public school and s couple of those presidents didn't like that we were a Christian school. Continues to talk to Karl Benson and is pursuing FBS.

RE: Best info yet on LU and the Sunbelt
I love LU but lots of LU Alumni and fans really view things in a naive way. Winning helps sure but I've come to realize since we are private we need to have a higher academic profile. If we use existing private FBS schools as an example I challenge anyone to find one that has a low academic profile and plays FBS ball. I know LU is taking steps to fix this but it will be a semi long journey to complete and change the opinions of other FBS schools.

RE: Best info yet on LU and the Sunbelt
If you paid attention, you'll know that he was very positive about our 1-A future. Jr. clearly stated that the Sun Belt application process was not over yet and that Benson was trying to push the SBC to 13-14 teams. He stated that LU was working on the SBC application process again and would probably submit it again this fall.

He also said that it was only 2-3 schools that was opposed to a private/Christian school, and that he thought some of that attitude had changed. Which confirms what an associate of Jr.'s had told me a few weeks ago, that they felt with admission was more probable with the natural changing/attrition of some of the SBC presidents. Maybe the CCU addition will be a good thing for us.

I think it's somewhat of a safe assumption (based upon previous news articles and comments on message boards) that the 3 opposed schools were AR State, ULL & App State.

He also clearly said that we had other options and was very optimistic. He's a very good businessman, even if he lacks his father's personality and charm. I'll trust his confidence. Hang in there friends, keep the faith, it'll happen sooner than later.

As a leader he pretty much has to to be up beat about going FBS. I do think it's possible for LU to go FBS but it won't be easy. What I'm curious about is what other options are there besides the SBC? Making a case to going independent could break open FBS for all FCS schools. That sounds great but makes me think the P5 will force the NCAA to make the P5 it's own division when FBS becomes too large. This wouldn't happen overnight just a long term domino effect.

I agree, he's got to remain positive. But he also made it fairly clear that the SBC route isn't over yet. Personally, I'd rather have another conference but obviously would settle for the SBC.

I'd like to know what the other options are as well. One thing he's been fairly clear about with Lang is that a lawsuit probably isn't going to happen. It's possible, that he's not tipping his hand, but he's still been fairly clear.

If the NCAA simply enforced the attendance and facilities requirements combined with the 85 total scholaries for FBS that should keep most FCS wanna be teams in their appropriate place, FCS. How many FCS teams are FBS ready? Especially those that meet the standards other than JMU, LU and possibly EKU. Coastal didn't and they got the invite, which bites.

I've read that Jax St. and Youngstown State both would like to be 1-A and meet the requirements as well. Ideally, I think it would work great/best if we could form a new conference with most of the leftover/holdover schools, even if we had to wait a few years for the conference to be Bowl eligible. I know- dream on, it'll never happen, etc. But it'd still be nice.

Where's there's smoke there can be fire. I also listened to the Jr. interview and heard the private/public school mention, as well as the 3 college prez statement. What I also heard was a soft mention about movement and activity in the SBS before the end of the year. It was near the beginning of the interview.

JSU's new president isn't thinking FBS anytime soon: http://www.annistonstar.com/sports/new-j...0791c.html

RE: Best info yet on LU and the Sunbelt
I think the Sun Belt is a dead end for the foreseeable future. With three hard no votes it seems only one more no takes Liberty out of the running.

It is interesting to hear that Liberty may have other conferences as options. I know the MAC denied Liberty previously. I guess that leaves CUSA as an option but I feel like that is remote, though more likely than the Sun Belt.
