Percent of Teams with 1st Loss Week 1: 33.59% (43 of 128)
For Comparison: Week 1 last year saw 31% of teams lose the first time and week 1 in 2013 saw 41.13% lose.

Number of Possible Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season: 12-At most one team from conference plus BYU and Notre Dame.

Week 1 Thoughts:

-It probably seems weird to see only about a third of teams suffer their first loss this week, but by my quick count (which might be off by a couple), there were 48 scheduled games between I-A and I-AA (FBS and FCS). While there were a few losses on the 1-A side in that, most were still wins.

-Too early to say much about individual teams. On the conference level, the conference which did the best this week was almost certainly the SEC. They did have Vanderbilt lose at home to Western Kentucky, but everyone else won or didn’t play (LSU’s game was cancelled) including in some games.

Week 2 Thoughts:
-We have 24 games between undefeated I-A teams next week (at least by my quick count).
-We have 6 games between winless I-A teams.
-Boise State plays at BYU next week. If Boise State wins it, it will be a very big early favorite for the Group of 5 New Years 6 Bowl. BYU meanwhile needs it to hope to end in the top 12 or so and get in one of the bowls themselves.
-Some conference action getting started next week.

The sad reality is that BYU can beat Boise St. by 50 points this Saturday and Boise St.'s path to the Fiesta Bowl is still 100 times easier than BYU's path. Still, I'm glad that BYU's only goal isn't the NY6.
