What if Memphis landed every big local recruit from 2008-2020 ...
If ya really want to hurt, let’s take a look at what our rosters would’ve looked like if we had landed almost every big recruit to come out of the city since 2008 and project through the 2019 class.

Obviously, we’d never get all these guys due to competition and other circumstances…but it’s interesting to look at nonetheless. I also left out lower ranked guys that panned out like Ian Clark and Cam Payne since I was only considering “big recruits”.

Lastly, I also accounted for guys transferring or leaving early (Tarik, Austin, Nick, Adonis, Stokes, Skal, etc.) just for ***** and gigs.

Well, if you take out your qualifiers, it's even worse.

Josh messed up a chance to have a roster with Tarik/Stokes and Skal/Nichols.

This from a city that doesn't usually produce big men.

In 7 years, it produced 4 high DI quality bigs.

Lastly, I think if you throw Buckner on the list, you have to throw Moutrie as well - heck, he was even a "live" transfer when Josh was the coach, so Memphis missed on him twice.

I think instead of 3 Final Fours, Memphis could have had 5, maybe 6 - at the very least 1 more and several more deep runs.

But that's signing everyone and in a vacuum - i.e., they all get along, no injuries, getting the guys that pan out, etc.

From Johnny Neumann to Michael Cage (I'll count him as West Memphis) to Todd Day to Skal Labissiere.

Moultrie is more like Ian Clark or Cam Payne. No one was really high on him in HS. We did miss on him the 2nd time around.

Buckner was a 4-star out of Manassas.

And Jeremiah Martin off, too.

Part of the problem is most kids don't want share the spotlight with someone else at the same position. None of the guys that you have listed on the 2013-2014 team would be content with coming off the bench. Heck, you even have 2 guys in the starting lineup that went to different schools to avoid each other (JJ and CJ). I realize this is a game of "what if", but "what if" seems to be pretty far from reality.

Well, it's the offseason and we're 3 straight years of no postseason and still not one big Memphis commit and going after a #48 JC...let us have our little fantasy discussion.

There's no doubt a decent amount of talent comes out of Memphis. That we can all agree upon. Getting kids to stay here and whether some are worth the headache is another discussion. However, for conversation sake...specifically for next year, would you feel better about the outlook for 2017-2018 assuming we signed Isaiah Stokes and William Douglas instead of Jamal Johnson and Victor Enoh? Those were the main 2 guys out of Memphis. Fine players, but neither seem like program changers.

Oh, just going by the fact they were still eligible.

As for J-Mart, just noting those teams only have 10 or 11 guys yet could have as many as 13.

That shows how crazy it can be. Martin starts and plays 30+ mpg and in your scenario, he wouldn't even make the team.

Haha I'm a big Jeremiah Martin fan. Have been since last year...but he wouldn't have been a take in normal years.
