RE: TIGER LANE
Well, RE: Tiger Lane, We got there and set up about 11:00 am. I will never put my family through that again. The heat index was 109. It is one thing to walk out on your way home from work and get into your 120 degree hot car and turn the AC on and say "Yeah, I know it's uncomfortable, but we'll have the tent up for shade, and a fan blowing, and heck, people lived for thousands of years without AC.... blah blah, blah." And yeah, for the first hour it was uncomfortable. But by game time, you've had to drink inhuman amounts of water and gatorade (which has the added negative of you NOT being able to drink beer), you feel bloated and full and sweaty and gross, your wife has that tunnel vision (symptom of a heat stroke coming) on the long walk to the stadium and she has to sit down. You finally make it into the game, and you can't yell because you have a pounding headache most likely from dehydration along with not drinking enough coffee for the day. It was MISERABLE.
Next year, for the opener, we will show up - MAXIMUM - 45 minutes before gametime. I mean, 109 heat index? No way. Next year we are NOT tailgating unless the heat index is 107 or lower.

We've said for several years how great it will be when all those trees mature and provide some shade. I was lucky to be with a great group that had enough tents to make it all bearable.
Edit: Also no wives or kids.

My post was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but seriously, it was too hot out there for 7 hours of exposure. At least for "me and mine."
I will say on the trees: I do not understand why they chose oak. They grow slow. Why did they not go with sycamores? They grow like weeds and are great for shade.

Dad lived to be 88, and may have lived longer had he not broken is leg and spent his last year bedbound. Mom is still ticking at 89. Based on their history and modern medicine, I expect to live to 115 or so (assuming I start taking care of myself). Plenty of time, and they will be beautiful.

I thought they were pin oaks (fasts growing of the oaks). Either way, it takes a tree four years to establish a root system, then they start their growth ish.

I HATE sycamores I have one in my yard and all it does is drop huge leaves and those ball things. Its alot of cleanup in the fall.
