Begs the question?

Which game was the fluke? UT or Jax St.

Syracuse will be a much better team by the end of the season as the new staff works the kinks out. Of course since they play a much tougher schedule than UAB I'll concede the better record to UAB right now.
That is a good question. Considering we were in control on the JSU game until the last 7 mins (we were up by 21 pts) tells me we just let our guard down. In the UT game, we had the ball most of the 2nd half but couldn't capitalize on scoring opportunities when it counted.

So it's probably a matter of opinion.

Regarding Syracuse schedule, due to the fact you only have to play 7 conference games gave you an opportunity to play a better OOC schedule. UAB has Oklahoma, Georgia, and Miss St on the schedule for next year. Something tells me that OU and MSU will be of whole helluva lot better than this year. If UAB had SU schedule I still think UAB would win more games than SU. Fact is SU is just not a good team so far and not expected to be good this year. UAB is a very good team with talent that could compete with SU schedule this year.

And for CollegeCard, I'm not making fun of UC schedule and a loss is a loss. But I do believe if we can hang with UT we could hang with UL. Again, JMHO. And I definitely know that USM, UAB or UTEP would be a underdog to UL but again my opinion is that these schools would give UL a battle.

I could ask the question who is the real UL team? The one that needed a last second turnover to beat UK or the team that demolished a middle of the pack OSU team? But I know UK is not only a rival but a state rivalry game so it's a little different than your average opponent. Same for UAB with Troy and JSU. I don't think the Catamounts are a state rival with UC. And like some of the BE posters have discussed on your board, their are some pretty good Div 1-AA programs that can beat some Div 1-A programs. Furman and JSU are examples of those Div 1-AA programs. Furman only lost to Pitt by 3 last year.

It's all opinion anyway but fun to discuss.

Go CUSA!

I agree with that. The list of teams change slightly every few years (with many schools staying put), but I suspect that the bottom 20 or so I-A's any given year or not much, if any, better than the top 20 in I-AA that given year. Also, we have EKU near here so I do know that JSU has won the OVC I believe 2 straight years and gone to the playoffs, though I don't think they have done anything there.

As for this year, in the ESPN I-AA poll from 9/12 (prior to Saturday), WCU was ranked 22nd and JSU was 23 in others receiving votes (or 45th).

In the 9/19 Sports Network I-AA poll, WCU is 19th and JSU is 37th.

In the 9/19 version of the I-AA AGS Poll, WCU is 21st this week. JSU not ranked. So while recently JSU has been better than WCU (no doubt), it doesn't look like that necessarily this year, at least at this point.

Not exactly a stellar weekend for UAB or UC but they both did win at least.

I don't think the Catamounts are a state rival with UC.

But Cincinnati has one of the youngest, if not THE youngest team in Division I-A. Maybe that's why it was so close. You don't have to be an in-state rival to struggle. And using that rival thing is an excuse. You struggled against a Division I-AA school just like UC did. The Catamounts are ranked #21 having just come off a win over #2 Furman last week.

What would your team do with UAB this year Cat?

Who knows we're rebuilding. I do know that Syracuse, West Virginia and Louisville would beat the sh*t out of UAB, that's a given.

Exactly. This "in-state rivalry" crap is just that, crap when it comes to the Division I-AA game. The only difference between the UAB and UC games is that UAB was in a shootout and Cincinnati was in a defensive struggle. UAB would be favored to beat Cincinnati, whoop-de-doo Blazer fans. To bad that won't get you any better then a trip to the Liberty Bowl.

Why do you take things so personal dude? The difference between the UAB/JSU and UC/West Carolina game was that UAB had a 21 point lead and at no point felt like they were going to lose that game. I didn't see the UC/WC game but with a score of 7-3, I'm sure the Bearcat fans were just a little uneasy the whole game.
