His decision to play gimpy Alex Carder instead of Tyler Van Tubbergan likely cost us wins against Buffalo and EMU that last season. With those wins we would have ended up a much more respectable 6-6. Cubit felt he owed AC the start-and signaled that he himself was ready for a change.

PJ Fleck has done a great job as HC, and I did not support his selection at first. I felt he lacked HC experience, but he has made a believer out of me.

I'll extend my best wishes to Cubit as long as he coaches, he brought our program up from the depths it has sunk the last few years with Gary Darnell. But Fleck is our man now, and I'm quite happy with that. Row the boat!

Perfectly stated!

Funny matchup with Western Illinois today. Cubit was offered the head coaching position there after he left WMU, turned it down, and a few weeks later accepted the OC position at Illinois.

30-0 at half. Should be higher than that though IMO

I was weary of the pick -- pretty much everyone was -- and more than weary as the 1st season winded down. But that's what you'll see with a naturally good coach who starts out too early. It'd be silly to dislike PJ. He got us to 8W, and nothing indicating we're going to be a bad team this year or something. I can understand not being a big fan of "RTB", "Fleckisms" (as PJ himself puts it understanding it can get a chuckle & rolling of eyes) -- but if we're going in the right direction, nobody should have issue or Want to see him go to reboot again with a new coach. Never understood that. I can't At All blame the "wtf" about letting Cubit go + getting Fleck During the year two years ago. But one would figure after last year, nobody would have any issue with PJ whatsoever.

Quote:Cubit was offered the head coaching position there after he left WMU, turned it down, and a few weeks later accepted the OC position at Illinois.

He's been a Highly paid OC, making more than basically all FCS coaches and for a good MAC coach ($500k+). I can only imagine as interim HC, he's got a nifty pay raise for the year as well. He didn't really take a step "down" being OC at Illinois and giving them what they need, and stepping in as HC for the time being.

Right now, Illinois is up 30-0. Made 34 passes in the 1st half. Running game, though needs to step up. Only 2.9 yds/carry at halftime against an FCS team. I can understand maybe 3.5 if most runs were restricted to short yardage to get a FG, but being under 3 -- they gotta get their running game going when preparing for UNC.

Illinois is broadcasting their football games in Chinese. They made a comment that they want to be the Big Ten of Asia.

China must think Illinois is the most powerful football team in the world right now - lol.

Looks like if Illinois is set no matter what to hire a new coach, Cubit may be coaching in China!

Row the boat, oars on the back of the Broncos jerseys, leading cheers at Necton night at a Prefontaine pace, on and on ad nauseam. Coach the team like Coach Cubit did! Good lord enough of the gimmicks. "If you win, they will.come".
Fleck is a joke! We are down by 23 with 3-4 minutes to go and he puts Terrel back in!?!?
WOW

Great Actor (phony), way too immature to be coaching a D-1 team.

I have nothing but admiration for a guy who screw things up and land on his feet.

Illinois first game against a fellow P5 today. So far North Carolina leads 10-0 in first quarter.
