Slappytard Arrowhead gives his firsthand perspective
http://www.scout.com/college/central-mic...redictions

Arrow was at the game because deep down he's a closet Sparty. You can read his take, I will translate.

What he said
"Sparty took their foot off the gas"

What he means- If Terrell, Davis, and Braverman can do that to an MSU defense, lord knows what he'll do to our crap DBs

What he said
"WMU's playing surface looks great. The big scoreboard is nice too, but it's obvious they have a lot of kinks to work out. The down and distance was often wrong, very few replays were shown immediately following a play, and I don't remember any in-game stats being shown."

What he means- in spite a few glitches Waldo Stadium made our antiquated turf, scoreboard, tool shed, and monument to cement, look like a hayseed stadium
plopped in the middle of a cornfield.

Worst announcer ever- Cant really disagree with him on this one. Tell me the player who carried the ball or made the tackle not his number. That said to say he's worse then the idiot at CMU who says , "MOVE THOSE CHAINS" is questionable. Every time I hear that I think I'm at a Menden high school game.

What he said
"No way is MSU a Top5 team. Probably a top 25 team"

What he means- if I frame it this way then nobody will notice that Oklahoma State probably wasn't that good, and likely not a top 25 team. They had a new quarterback who wasn't very good and still threw for 266 yards on us. I can only imagine what Connir Cook will do to us. When we get blown out by State and score a few meaningless points against the scrubs I will conveniently omitt that they let off the gas and commend our boys for not quitting.

Good analysis.

Looks like a format I used to use on the old, OLD days.

Quote:"Sparty took their foot off the gas" ........ "No way is MSU a Top5 team. Probably a top 25 team"

Unless you think WMU is a mediocre G5 at best, you can't say both. Say we had a #21 team in the country coming into Waldo for a big day. A good team, nationally known, but not going to any BCS Bowl. They walk into our house opening game, us all pumped up looking for blood, we perform worse than expected 1st half, and better than expected 2nd half, and lose 37-24. You wouldn't say they "let the foot off the gas".

IMO, MSU didn't let their foot off the gas, but they got too comfortable with our 1st half being like the 2nd half against NIU last year. A tale of two halves. They were like "this is in the bag", walking into the 2nd half, and after they scored a TD with us having a FG to extend it. And to an extent, they were right. But good teams like ourselves also don't think "this is in the bag" and keep fighting.

Think of the Ball State game last year. It's no more "letting the foot off the gas". MSU was in a position where they had kinks to iron out, get things sorted out, and they're NOT a team to put the foot off the gas really. Their version would be to put in 3rd stringers. That, they did not do.

I thought MSU's big players got gassed in the second half. It wasn't a case of letting their foot off the gas, they HAD NO MORE gas.

That's the problem with size, it takes a lot more energy to keep them moving. They'll be better conditioned in a few games.

Corey Davis, who most project into the NFL, was gassed too. Two teams "burned it all".

I really wish they wouldn't have gone to Corey on that last pick. He was beat. Fake the fade and give them something they didn't expect.

They should have tried a Braverman end-around first.
