Well it's not like Georgia State is a Division 1 powerhouse (in fact they won the coveted Bottom 10 title last year from ESPN), but that is a nice start for Charlotte. It sounds like a very ugly game however (and I don't understand why some people think Georgia State would be a good addition to CUSA, although they did upset Baylor in the NCAA basketball tournament last year).

I think its Ga Southern, not Ga State, that people mention as a C-USA possibility.

Charlotte still winning, 23-13 in the 4th.

I think it was Georgia State - the school in Atlanta - that people were talking about. Either way though, State or Southern, I'm not sure either team is a great fit for CUSA. It seems like we already have quite a few southeastern teams and we don't need anymore in that area. I'd prefer we migrate more west, with a Missouri State or Wichita State. Even though neither has football - I think both teams for all other sports would be a plus.

Well Charlotte won 23-20. Not bad for the pre-season last place team of CUSA.

I remember Ty Summers, he committed then decommitted ended up at TCU, would have been a great pickup but good for him. He would not have seen the field here at LB (Elder & Lyons)

More bad news for Army. I'm not sure if this is MOB material or not. Maybe if handled semi-tastefully?

FAU-Tulsa going to OT, tied at 41.

FAU got to the Tulsa 1 in OT, but a false start & sack made them settle for a FG. Tulsa wins, 47-44.

Not CUSA, but at the half at Soldier Field, Australia 14, USA 10. Unfortunately, far more because Australia is bad than because the USA is good.

RE: Other CUSA Football action - Week 1
Takeaways.

Positive
Depth at RB (Walter and Dillard looked great)
Team was ready to play; not flat (hint: to all those who have been critical about preparedness in DB era; can't criticize that today. No $.05 St. repeat). Would have been easy to be flat given poor crowd, wait for kickoff, humidity, etc.
DJ looked good (except pick..see below). Good running and speed option decisions.
Up-Front control of line-of-scrimmage on both sides (recognizing Wagner is not Baylor or Texas though)
Fox/Frosh Kicker will be good
German. Don't know why risk a DJ injury that late in game. Get him in earlier.
Students running to their seats when Owls took field in warm-ups and then out to field for player run-thru
Like opening with 'cupcake' vs. a 'body bag' Hope to see more of that. Props to JK.
Watching Horns tonight; this team has very real chance for a W next week. Signature win time.
Stewart will break one this year as punt returner.
Depth. Lots of young guys who got action today that will be important at season goes on.
Did not have to show much of playbook. Should be plenty of wrinkles/action off the plays shown today for over-aggressive D's.

Concerns
Davis ankle; hope he is ready to go next week.
DJ Int; rare poor decision.
Did not see TE's; Absent
Kickoff coverage looked suspect; No Boz means better have lanes. Talent won today but next week could get exposed.
Overly conservative on lightening call/start; understand need for safety but was over-the-top to make it a one hour vs. 30-min delay.
MOB looks smaller each year.
Still look vulnerable to get beat deep. Young DB's were lucky that our DL pressure got to the QB a few times. Next week, same situation could be six points.

RE: Other CUSA Football action - Week 1
Great summary Owl40. I agree.
We will miss a kicker that can consistently produce touch backs.

I wasn't able to make the game because of last minute family concerns. And I had no TV coverage in this part of the world... so all I had to go on was the radio feed.
It sounds like our strengths are at RB and QB. And that we have above average speed.

Pass coverage, as usual, seems shaky. Kicking game needs work.

But it also sounds like we play very aggressively and that we have a LOT of young, fast, really good players.

Next week will be fun in Austin.

Back to topic,

La Tech has 52 points halfway through 2nd quarter. That's scary.
