ODU makes it 4-2 on the road for CUSA on the first weekend. If FAU holds, it'll be 5-2 on the road. That's some awesome shiite right there.

Several thoughts.

1. I was really convinced that the defense was greatly improved. It may be, but it did not play that way today until we really, really needed them. It has to turn the corner soon. I did not expect EMU to score more than 17 points. I was wrong.

2. The offense was a little slow getting going, but in the end, they put 38 points on the board. Good day by the offense. I think Bentley is going to be A-OK this year.

3. Ray Lawry is a beast, picking up right where he left off last year.

4. Fellonte Misher is another beast. He played a superb game on defense.

5. They have a lot of hard work ahead of them, but this team is flying home with a win. Nuff said.

Congrats on the win ODU. This might sound crazy but that is a tough place to play. Not because of the loud crowd but because of the lack of one. There couldn't have been 500 people there. And I'm not exaggerating or poking fun at it. Sad if you think about it. I dont know how they can continue on like that.

It's the first week, everyone will have issues. Some can fix them within the game others will not. From this I take: don't underestimate your opponent, especially in the first game back. Our defense still sucks though.

Here is my concern. For much of this game our defense was schemed to keep Bell from breaking out side. I get it, but it seems we were very slow to adjust to them running the ball straight down our throats. This I lay on D coordinator. Yes our kids missed some tackles, but in all fairness, they laid the wood on more plays than I can ever remember. I'n not as worried about the kids, I think they will make huge advances as the season progresses. In fact, I expect the D to be significantly better next week. My concern is for the apparent lack of willingness to adjust to game day situations. Thoughts?

A road win to start the season is always a positive, regardless of who it is. It's a MAC team and ODU got the W. Defense is suspect but I would just be happy with the win. Improvement in all phases for game 2, that should be the goal. Congrats to ODU.
