As my buddy who has sat in front of me for years said tonight "lots of folks on the bandwagon this year."
Also had to worry about seat poachers down low for the first time in forever. Either folks trying to move down or legitimate ticket holders trying to squeeze their 6 closest friends in from another section.
Never dealt with this before at the opener for Memphis football.

It seemed like there were more than 41k people there tonight, but either way it was a great crowd in my opinion.

We didnt make it into the game until 30 minutes after the start due to the traffic on Hollywood, and there was a serious line still behind us. We were hung up between Union and Hollywood for an hour and twenty minutes.
The stadium looked at least 80% full by the time we got there, and there were a ton of people in the concession areas and not in their seats. If the number 42,700 is true, then we had to be the fattest 42,700 people in Memphis, cause that stadium was really full. I'd say at least 80% all the way around.

I'd agree with the 50K number. I know when the bowl "looks" 80% filled, its not because of the gaps and some people spreading out, but there were also thousands in the concession area at the same time.
