Well to be fair it really wasn't talking about any expansion candidates, other than Houston (since it's a Houston paper). I thought this quote was interesting:
“Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas can go lots of places, which is great for those schools, but it also means they can’t be relied upon if you’re one of the other seven Big 12 schools.”

Wasn't Kansas in real danger of being SOL the last time? I thought I remembered Self discussing the possibility that even a basketball program that has been as successful as they have didn't carry enough weight to insure their inclusion if the Big 12 folded.

This is certainly something that hasn't bee said before...but I'll say it again.

We need there to be a P5 and not a P4. As long as there is a P5 and they aren't all maxed out then we've got a shot.

If they add Southern Miss that will make the old "close road trip" crowd happy.

Memphis is never mentioned in the media, but the Big XII knows about Memphis. The Iowa State experience at the Liberty Bowl had a lot to do with that.

I knew some people who drove down and they all had a blast. Lots of midwestern towns are a bit stodgy, even some college towns like Ames, and Memphis is easy to have fun in.

Hopefully the next Big XII school's fans will enjoy things as much as the ISU folks.

While it can't hurt, I'm not sure that means much in the grand scheme of conference expansion.

You guys worry too much. Stay strong, build the program, and they will come looking for you.

If this plays out like a lot of the predictions say it will, these conferences will be looking for inventory. The University now has leadership that recognizes the importance of a strong football program and the program is getting stronger by leaps and bounds.

RE: Article: Future of Big 12
Keep winning, and they will knocking our door down one day. Our school just need to keep investing in the product on the field, and keep hiring the right kinds of coaches that can help us stay competitive. Hopefully they could hold on to Coach Fuente. He is quite fond of approaching things the way that his mentor Coach Patterson runs things...so hopefully loyalty to your employer is one of those things as well.
At a place like Memphis...once you build something nice like this, it is kind of easy to maintain and keep it going with the right support. At a higher profile job...you have to deal with higher expectations.
As of now...the only expectations that Memphis has for its football program is to become relevant...and win.
Soon our expectations will build a bit further...it would be to win the conference on a yearly basis if possible.
Coach Fuente is up for the kinds of challenges that he is facing right now. He is learning on the job and growing even as we speak.
Whether he could endure long term success right now at a higher profile school could be up for debate....but if it were me...I'd stay with a good thing that I had invested a lot of time and energy in.
I would only leave for a school that had made a large commitment to its football program, and enjoyed strong support from its community.
And even THAT is not a given to winning now days (see University of Tennessee, University of Florida)

If CJF leaves after this year little chance of remaining strong. Needs to remain at least one more year if not two to have solid foundation of players for next coach to rely.

Players are coming to play for CJF, not the school at this point in time. As we saw after Pancoast it is hard for someone to come into a winner and maintain it. If the players originally came to play for coach instead of school. How long did it take Williamson to take a winning program to a losing program..
