What can we expect from Barber & Jr. with Coastal's departure
It's official now. With Coastal leaving the Big South, Liberty loses it's #1 rival, the conference loses a football member, and the quality of FB play drops dramatically. Let's put the spotlight on the decision makers of LU. If you are the admins of LU, what do you do with Liberty still with their hand up waiting to be picked?

This won't be popular to say but I think it's our best bet to try and get into the CAA. We would have some fantastic rivals in that league, but let it be known our ultimate goal is FBS.

RE: What can we expect from Barber & Jr. with Coastal's departure
I think this has been discussed to death already in the multiple threads so here's a summary of what I'd do:

Ask the NCAA to move up as an FBS independent. If rejected, try to pay an FBS conference to invite Liberty as football only with the intention of dropping Liberty after they transition so we can be independent and FBS. If that doesn't work, consider a lawsuit and/or partner with other FCS schools that are stuck in FCS but want to move up.

Regardless, get the public on your side (shouldn't be hard to do with the NCAA being known as the big bad guys picking on the little guys while the big programs who make money get slaps on the wrist) and be decisive because time is precious.

Here are some thoughts of what LU can do:
- continue to schedule the highest profile FBS schools possible for money games
- try to have 2 FBS teams or more on the schedule each year
- attempt to schedule SBC, MAC or CUSA teams getting 1 home game and agreeing to compensate them for coming to Williams Stadium
- have the players play, especially Nov. 19 vs. Coastal, with a chip on their shoulder, that extra edge could be the difference between a win and a loss
- keep the mantra that FBS is the goal and it is going to happen
- TV broadcast as many away games as possible
- and win as many as possible realizing some are likely not going to happen (App State took their lumps before finally breaking through)

How many FCS games must be on the schedule to qualify for the playoffs? Take that minimum number and plug in all the other games with FBS teams nationwide.

FBS teams cannot play road games at FCS schools without a waiver from the NCAA, so Liberty would not be able to host any FBS programs until it is an FBS program itself.

Then doesn't that mean that if the rule was challenged, along with a host of other requirements (attendance/facilities that are not enforced) the rules could be changed? I'm betting if Liberty does rattle the NCAA with a hint of challenging this and other rules, many current rules will change.

I think Barber and Jr. are already kind of doing this- with the decision to no longer play D2 schools and to schedule a P5 and a G5 1A game every year. We're in Season 1 of that philosophy.

I think it is unwise to challenge the rule of FCS not hosting an FBS school without a waiver (if true). Pick your battles. Go for FBS independence if you are going to make a lawsuit. Don't sue for a consolation prize if you could get the grand prize.

Even with a rule change, I doubt that any self-respecting 1A school would visit any 1AA schools. Especially considering that they have everything to lose if they lose and not much to gain should they win. That being said, we could probably lure GA State here...

And also next year.
