I am an ODU graduate of 2012 living in Chicago. I've been visiting these boards for a few years now and decided to join the discussion. I apologize if this is not the proper way to introduce myself (by starting a new thread, I mean), but I have a specific question to go along with my introduction. It is very common in this city for major colleges to have multiple bars catering to their fans. My roommate is an active member of the Chicago Hokies, for instance. They are essentially an alumni chapter and get together for every game at their sponsored bar. I am 99% sure ODU does not have a bar in the city but hopeful that there are enough Monarchs living here to start some sort of chapter. I think it would be awesome to have a place to call home, where we could watch Bobby Wilder tear into an official while sharing stories of our times on campus. A chapter would also be able to host prospective students, aiding them with questions about ODU (admissions, majors, housing, athletics, etc.). So my question is this: what should be my first course of action with regards to finding out information? Would I be able to acquire a roster of Chicago alumni from the school? Are there any Chicago Monarchs on CSNbbs?

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks for taking me in.

Check with the Alumni Assoc to see if there are any active Alumni groups in Chicago.

Welcome! I echo the advice of ODUTB. Plant the ODU flag firmly in "The Windy City."

If there is not an active group, I would start a Chicago Monarchs Facebook page and ask the Alumni Association and ODU Facebook page to share a link to the New page. Once you do that and get a sizable enough group, I'm sure you could start an official alumni chapter.

Welcome, I think ODUalum78 is involved with the alumni association in Richmond he may be able to give you some advice.

Good luck with your endeavor in Chicago. I'm familiar with the Hokie ones up there and it would be great to have a Monarch fan/watch party/bar as well. ODU's issue is most of our alumni are in the state of Virginia. Even the DC/Nova alumni club seems to do very little of this type of thing. Richmond seems to be the most active, so I agree with the suggestion to contact them.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm hoping to make some time next week to contact the ODU Alumni Association. I've glanced at all of the pages and links you've all posted, and it looks like this might be something I can accomplish with a little help. Thanks again, and here's to hoping I can find the game tomorrow on a local station!
