RE: NIU playing WIU in 2016 (football)
WIU is one of the better teams in the Valley this year and are now ranked in FCS after beating UNI last weekend. Their (fairly new) coach has done a great job with that program and their upcoming games with ISU and NDSU will be interesting. They will be a tough opponent in 2016. It will not be a Presby/Murray State type walkover at all.

I could be wrong but I believe they played NDSU really well last year. Had a few chances to win too! Like I said, I could be wrong but I think that was their game against NDSU that the COULDVE won.

Means NIU should be able to draw a decent crowd for that game. Maybe not a sellout like EIU in 2013, but ~ 20k depending on the weather.

It would be pretty wild if the solution to attendance woes isn't Maryland, Boston College and San Diego, but WIU, SIU and EIU.

I hope not, or we may drop down to FCS!

now if we could only get an ISU game and/or a UofI/SIU win at HS then we'd be golden.

Yep, just like the game I attended in Dekalb when the Michael Turner led Huskies were denied by the 'Necks.

i do not believe Turner was leading the team at that point. It was Thomas Hammock. that is, if we are talking about 2002.

The two best quarterbacks that ever played in one game at HS. Plus it was a great game that lived up to all the hype. The EIU fans were dancing in their seats at halftime and then crying all the way home with JL leading the comeback.

Not worried much by WIU. The Illness smoked them this year.

We should be well established next year. As long as the complacency bug doesn't kill us...

I'm hoping we get out of this game and replace it with a power 5 team, doubtful at home but we need a power 5 team on the schedule.

I'm fine with any game against an Illinois school, there should be one every year. Odd for us to have 0 games vs. P5 schools.

Me too. It is something I want to happen before I die -an NIU beat down on the Illness!
I have family that went there so for me it is a pride thing.

4 games 03-banghead

Frazier inherited a terrible scheduling philosophy that has not helped the Huskies put butts in the seats or lock down long term revenue streams. They FOUR one and done games are for Revenue. Now Frazier is trying to do the best with the hand he was dealt. He said early on that he would try to fill the four one and done games with in state FCS schools so that the Huskies would still be able to have six home games and draw better crowds with visiting fans. Basically this corrects and is the substitute for NIU not being able to schedule another FOUR one for one series with better schools which Frazier would have done no doubt based on his body of work so far.

We are talking about 2002, and you are incorrect. I was at the game, it was a great crowd. You guys were coming off a very close loss against a ranked Wisconsin team, and the refs blew several calls that led to the outcome.

Actually, blew calls is not describing the reffing accurately. I was also in attendance in Madison that day, and the refs handed the game to Wisconsin. I remember a PI call on NIU in the 4th qtr and there was not a defender within 10 feet of the receiver when the flag was thrown.

I found some old quotes from Joe:

"Can I get fined talking about the officials? I know they do in
the Big Ten,'' Novak said. "I'm not going to, because we don't do
that. I never criticize officials because, simply, they're closer
than I am. So, I don't know.

"But, boy, there was some awful bad timing on some of those
penalties. The holding on the punt, in 34 years of coaching, I
don't think I've ever seen that one before.''
