I'd say Charlie Strong after reading Shaggy tonight.

yeah you lose 38-3 and things aren't pretty....

And I would say something as well with Strong that hurts even now. SMU looks like they found a coach. Houston looks like they found a coach. You could make the argument that Strong is now the 5th best coach behind Briles, Patterson, Harmon, and Morris in the state of Texas.

If Schiano takes an assistant job before being a HC again, I would be very surprised (referring to to the post about him being an assistant in Blacksburg).

5th is being generous.

Sumlin (A&M), Larry Coker (I won a natty at Miami! (UTSA)) and Dennis Franchione (Texas St) say hi

good point about Sumlin. So at bare minimum 6th. Yeah, Strong better get this righted in a hurry.

I bet that Mike Riley is having second thoughts about Nebraska after tonight. I doubt he is used to the craziness that he is likely experiencing from the Husker nation this evening.

What exactly has Sumlin done? His list of accomplishments beyond 1 player are quite short IMO.

Sumlin hasn't done a whole bunch, he's had 1 10 win season in the SEC, and I think 2 more in CUSA while at Houston. But we're only comparing him to Charlie Strong, who had a couple of 10 win seasons at Louisville and then a losing season last year

I really liked the hire when it happened, but he has not turned around the program at all. Maybe he needs to come back to a Texas school?

Charlie actually won his conference though. And played in BCS games. Sumlin gets lots of hype but really hasn't accomplished much in some ways.

RE: Coaches on the hot seat - 2015
wow saw this about Texas

Texas' struggles continue in 38-3 loss

No. 11 Notre Dame cruised past the Longhorns in its season opener, extending the problems in Austin:

■Third time in the last 13 games Texas lost by at least 30 points
■Three points ties Longhorns' fewest in a season opener since 1950
■First season-opening loss for Texas since 1999

the 30 point factoid to me is the most alarming.

but Strong didn't do that at Texas. And that's the big concern. And yes, part of the reason why Strong looks so bad is the fact like this week- Briles and Patterson both get wins as top 5 teams, Sumlin blows out a top 15 team, and even Houston and SMU have exciting new coaches. Of all places- that matters at Texas.

Possibly, but I think Haden is beloved by the Admin and Donors that he has a little leeway.

It won't help Strong, but Texas is 2-8 against Notre Dame (all time).

On top of that you have UTSA put up 32 against Arizona, Texas St. put up 16 against FSU and Sam Houston gave Texas Tech a game.

I don't think Flood is going anywhere this year -- I doubt that RU will buy out his contract and the donors are behind him.

You can't go by the NJ Media; they love nothing more than making mountains out of molehills where Rutgers is concerned.

Wazzu's administration is in a tricky spot. That might be the toughest P5 school to build a winner in. Pullman is a small town in not-so-scenic eastern Washington. It's nowhere close to a major population center and Washington isn't necessarily a hotbed of high school football. It's a very tough place to get a recruit interested in. WSU is often compared to Oregon State, but OSU is right down the road (45 minutes) from their rival, 90 minutes from Portland, the town is considerably more interesting, and they have much better facilities.

RE: Coaches on the hot seat - 2015
I was always curious as to why Mike Leach, who still was a top-coaching candidate at numerous programs after his dismissal at Tech, settled for Washington State. His name was rumored for Maryland, Miami, Arizona State, and Minnesota in 2010/2011. He could have had a colossal amount of resources at any of those schools.
