O'Leary
Reports out of USA today are that George O'Leary want to be the permanent Athletic director and step down from coach after this season.
Now, how many UCF fans want to come back and tell me I was crazy when I predicted this day 1?

RE: O'Leary
It would not surprise me. Not sure why he would chose this season though...this is hardly the UCF team you would want to do a victory lap with. imo.

I knew this would happen. Cushy job, Florida weather. The problem is that he isn't going to hire the coach that we need. #firegol.

I know a worthy successor. He has a wide, wide variety of experience and is highly thought of in the SEC, Sunbelt, CUSA, etc.

RE: O'Leary
I haven't posted here in months, but there aren't many UCF fans I know of that would be surprised if that happened. Naming him as interim AD "until the end of the year" was a pretty clear indicator since it's almost unheard of to name a new AD mid-year. But it wouldn't be a surprise if he came back as head coach, too. GOL is always very guarded in what he says, and I would be very surprised if he told anyone outside of this inner circle what his definite plans are, so I'm a little skeptical when I read "this is what GOL is going to do." Maybe he will step down, maybe he won't. But I doubt he's told many people, and certainly none in the media.

I see nothing has changed around here. You're still a big douchebag no matter how many championships GOL wins. GOL could be exactly what the UCFAA needs. I think they could use a swift kick in the ass. For way too long too many people have treated positions within UCFAA as "cushy" jobs, and too many things have been bungled along the way. Well no more. We've already seen several departures within UCFAA, and to them I say, "good riddance." I look forward to seeing the staff filled out with people who will work their ass off for a change.

I agree, not sure who didn't see this coming. This season is a tryout for GOL as AD and Key as HC.

Why don't you take another vacation douchenozzle? Do you think for one minute that GOL will give the next coach under him autonomy?

RE: O'Leary
people complaining about this are complaining about the wrong reasons
they are complaining about the coach hires he might make.....like that really matters...he is going to barry Alvarez the entire thing...he will mold everything around what he wants ...as long as he is AD, the identity will be what oleary wants and hwe will oversee everything
athletically i think ucf will be 100% fine with oleary....he has always seemed like the person that will what it takes to win
im more worried about financially is where i question oleary as AD...you guys were pushing a 60k expansion with your old AD that basically died when oleary took over..does he know how to fund raise..those he know how to complete projects and push a athletic vision

This what I worry about. Fundraising. Stadium improvements. Hiring a good basketball coach...etc.

I am not sure about O'Leary's ability to do things like fundraising however I am sure about his ability delegate and demand results from the people he hires. O'Leary is all about accountability. He has enough experience to know the difference between his strengths and weaknesses. He will hire competent advisors to assist him with his weaknesses and delegate some responsibilities to those who are strong in those areas. He will demand results and not accept excuses. I fully support George O'Leary in everything he does involving UCF Athletics.
One thing I am not worried about with O'Leary as an AD is his ability to set goals and accomplish them. If you don't produce results you will be shown the door. Accountability is something UCF Athletics has needed for a long time and we will get that in O'Leary. No more excuses.

He gets nobody excited. He has done what he can for UCF, it is now time to move on. UCF is like the hot chick whose boyfriend abuses her. There is so much potential but she doesn't think she can do any better.

Alvarez was the exact name that came to mind when I read this news today.

Did the last 2 ADs get you excited? How'd that work out for us? Maybe we need a little less "rah rah rah" and more of someone who will put their foot down and actually produce.

I'd take a Tom Jurich or Oliver Luck disciple.

At no point were we pushing a 60k expansion. The stadium can support that, but that hasn't been in any immediate plans. Next step is actually to drop the total capacity and expand the boxes, then after add an east side upper deck. But that wouldn't get us to 60.

That expansion was on hold long before now. When the TV deal for BE imploded so did major expansion. School now is biting of pieces of the Apple, rather than the whole apple. Next big thing for stadium likely wil be more lux boxes. Much better bang for the buck.
