Terrible move for the belt. Their stadium only holds 9k. My old high school in WV has more than that come out for a game. I thought a program had to average 15k minimum for FBS.

They'll have 21-25k by the time they take their first FBS snap.

I believe the rule requires averaging 15K during one year of a two year span, though I can't say I've ever heard of it being enforced. And, just for the record.

At least half of CUSA, probably the entirety of the MAC and the entirety of the Sun Belt(save for Appy and Southern) have almost definitely been in violation of that "rule" at least once in the last 10-15 years.

Agreed. There were some dismal attendance figures for the Cajuns back in the dark days.

CC makes sense in that they fit the sun belt but nowhere else so they are not moving on like W. Kentucky did or USA may.

sun belt is already planning for the next round of realignment...good for them.

Proactive moves like this make the SBC stronger long term.

CCU can't be any worse in football than the current bottom three we have and by 2019 I wouldn't be surprised if they finish in the top half.

They make SBC baseball a top ten conference every year, and help with basketball travel and let us keep the soccer autobid.

If they get a 20k stadium by 2018 they'll be fine.

There is definitely room for growth at Coastal. They'll prove to be a decent add in time. Football will take some time (and maybe some beatings) to get up to speed, but the other sports should slide right in and compete for conference championships immediately.

As I said before, good add for the Sun Belt.

I feel as if this is getting ridiculous. We might as well open up the doors and let Prairie View A&M, Drake, Butler and Davidson in.

CUSA absolutely should invite Prarie View. They are right in the middle of your foot print!

Otherwise, this is the end of expansion until Idaho decides to go back to FCS, or the Big 12 gets silly again and grabs more teams.

I don't keep up with college baseball like I did when I was a student or even when I was still just living in Murfreesboro, but the Sun Belt and CUSA have both pretty routinely been top ten leagues IIRC.

This is a tough blow for Charlotte. There was no G5 option in SC prior to this.

Coastals head coach is a billionaire former CEO of Ameritrade.

And is still the active chairman of the board.

Ccu apparently committed to expanding to 26,000 in time for their first sbc season.

Wait what? And he's coaching football? 03-lmfao That's crazy.

Joe Moglias record would say otherwise Three big south championships and three FCS playoff appearances in three years. would beg to differ.

The point is this move bumps the SBC baseball up a spot or two, I see the SBC being the 5th-8th best conference any given year.

Pretty sure over the 5-7 years I kept track, CUSA was almost always in the 5-7 range and SBC in the 6-9 range, typically back to back or maybe one conference in between.

There have been and will continue to be debates about the two conferences in football and to a lesser extent MBB, baseball is one sport that both conferences excell at for sure, I don't know anything about Coastal, but if they can improve the Sun Belt baseball, they must have a pretty good program.

In the last 20 years:
- 12 NCAA Regional appearances and two Super Regional appearances
- #1 seed for regionals 4 times

This is the first FBS conference add can remember not driven specifically by market or football as the main benefit for the add.

RE: OT: Coastal Carolina to the Sunbelt Conference
Geez...it seems like there are a lot of ODU fans over here that **** out roses...is this the norm? Like they weren't in FCS not 3 years ago getting knocked out the playoffs twice in a row by a now Sunbelt team. I get it...the Sunbelt isn't the most ideal dream of FBS...but you make it seem like a land completely filled with misfit toys, when in reality it's the bottom 3rd of the conference that pulls it down the most.

As for CC. Being a top 10 FCS team last year, I don't expect them to have a whole ton of trouble getting somewhere between 5 - 8 in the conference by year 2 or 3, if not year 1.
