CUSA Football Predictions 2015
Another great year of football is among us!
I am hyped for Western Kentucky this season. They have the potential to do big things and they should be in the top 25 by the end of the year.
Marshall and La Tech could threaten WKU this year with the talent that they have.
(I will be doing a review for my site this Sunday at Marshall, pumped about that!)
Who do you guys have top to bottom in the conference?
Who's your sleeper team?
Always intrigued by your picks!
Last season I had the most accurate CUSA picks according to the Stassen

Good picks overall, I think Marshall 1st and then Middle Tennessee and WKU in the east with Tech winning the CUSA Championship. WKU is just receiving hype from the media. They will be good this year, but defense wins championship and unless their defense makes a 180, I don't see a CUSA championship or top 25 for WKU
Sleeper Picks FAU in the east and Southern Miss in the west

Really like FAU this season. I have a hard time seeing MTSU over WKU though.

I'm on the FAU train too. I think they'll finish 3rd or 4th behind Marshall, WKU, maybe MTSU

I see FAU and Southern Miss as sleepers. Southern Miss could finish as high as second or third in the West, IMO. Regardless of those two teams' individual performances, the conference should hopefully have enough teams with at least 6 or 7 wins to fill our 7 bowl spots.

I wish USM would come back, but I don't see much from them this year.

I'm just curious why people see FAU finishing ahead over FIU and even as their sleeper pick? What about their team leads you to believe they will surprise people this season? FIU beat them last season by 4 TDs and returns a ton of starters. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I am interested in your logic.

I was high on FAU coming off last season for 2015. Yes, FIU beat FAU by 28 early in the year, but people remember trends. After that game, FAU went and handed WKU their last defeat. The next week, they were the first team that had Marshall playing meaningful football in the final minutes of their game in Huntington. In consecutive weeks, they stood toe to toe with the perceived two best teams in the division.
Jacques Johnson is a senior QB and is probably seen as a top 3 returning QBs in the conference. They have a defense secondary that makes the case for best in the league (their run defense, not so much). I think Partridge earned a lot of respect with the situation he walked into and how he coaches. Even though they literally handed the Wyoming game over and played a few that could(should?) have gone their way, I think they are seen as a more disciplined team and program.
Conversely, FIU is still young in the backfield and will be a sophomore heavy team. After the FAU game you mentioned, FIU basically showed up small the rest of the year, only posting a decent result against an MTSU team that faded at the end of the year. There's not a single FIU unit I look at and say "best in the league" at this time. If the young core at FIU gives us some reason to believe in the next two years, maybe things will be seen different in coming years.

My prediction. Someone is going to slip on a banana peel when they visit Charlotte this year. No idea who. But that's my prediction.
Kind of like what happened to Gardner Webb in our first year.
Now please don't take this to mean that I think we are going to have a great year, but I just see us sneaking up on somebody.
Honestly if we win three games and dont get crushed most games I will be pretty damn happy.

Rice beats LaTech but loses to WKU. LaTech loses to WKU. Rice wins the West with 1 CUSA loss.
WKU loses to Marshall. Marshall loses either @FAU or @MTSU. Marshall wins the East with 1 CUSA loss, winning the head-to-head tiebreaker over WKU.
In a repeat of 2013, Rice wins the electronic tiebreaker and hosts Marshall in the CUSA championship game. In a repeat of 2013, Marshall fans whine about it and Rice crushes Marshall at home.

This is the trend I remember:
Lost to FIU by 4 TD
Week off
Beat WKU by a TD
Lost to Marshall by 19
Lost to UAB by a FG
Lost to North Texas by 3 TD
Lost to "an MTSU team that faded at the end of the year" by 1
Lost to ODU by a FG
1 W in the last 7 games.

That game was crazy. FAU lost the ball three times in the FIU's red zone and FIU's vaunted defense could not stop FAU (aside from the turnovers, of course). Well, both FAU's OL and DL are largely returning and so is our QB.
I think FAU's offense may be a significant force to be reckoned with...

RE: CUSA Football Predictions 2015
I also remember one of the crazier plays of the season in the CUSA occuring in the FAU - FIU game, the 103-yard fumble return TD by FIU. That was crazy. Gotta credit the FIU guys for realizing the play was still live. FAU gave up on that play.
