A classic example of what a baseball player should be. Even as a yankee hater, I respected him so much! RIP Yogi.

I couldn't tell if the streaker was a man or a woman because it had a bag on it's head.

I feel like a whole generation just died. What an amazing generation that was.....wish baseball was still like that.

True, when i hear yogi's name i think back to the good ole days of his childhood friend Joe Grageolia (sp?) doing the saturday baseball games. Wont ever forget the very much endowed woman known as the kissing bandit running thru the stands one saturday. They were bouncing back and forth and all Joe could way was "They cant be real".

I saw a good one on Twitter earlier. A guy said he played golf with Yogi once and while putting the guy left one short. Yogi said to him, "if you had putted it harder, you would have missed it closer."

Since he also died this year, how about we add ("Let's Play Two!") Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks?

And how did the man who inspired the cartoon character of Yogi Bear, and also was the drive-in movie promoter of "Yoo-Hoo" for all my years of going to the drive-in here in W.Va. say about getting ready for a game?

"I take a two-hour nap, from 1-to-4."

I am certain that's not what he meant. Yogi Berra was Italian so Anglo-American doesn't even fly. Willie Mays, Don Newcombe, Roy Campinela, Jacki Robinson, Larry Doby were all part of that generation. Please don't make this a race thing.

I wasn't necessarily trying to make it a race thing. Was just curious. MLB was never less than 80% white during Yogi's 18 years and was 90% or higher for a good portion so make it whatever you want it to be.

What else other than the three things below are different now vs that era...
1. The mound was slightly higher
2. MLB was just beginning to desegregate
3. And there were few Latin players whereas there are many now.

If not that then his post implies this generation of players such as Miguel Cabrera, Albert Pujols, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen, Clayton Kershaw, etc., etc., can't hold up to that generation. If it's about talent I would beg to differ. If it's something else other than those three I mentioned above I would love to know what they are.

IMO, the biggest difference today is the people don't value baseball in the same way they did back then. But that doesn't really have anything to do with that generation of players and is more about the fans than it is the baseball.
