Sagarin's ratings are skewed early in the season by weightings based upon the team's performance the prior season combined with the number of returning starters.
Wait a couple of more weeks, then the Sagarin ratings will be based solely on this season w/o any weightings.
Also, Temple's games DO NOT COUNT as MAC league games, thus the Owls should not yet be included as a member of the MAC. That would certainly give the league a modest "bump" in the average rating value.

SAHerdFan Wrote:Key word ...PERCEIVED ..
True but a 9-2 team unless both schools coming into the CUSA Championship at 9-1 will most likely get the highest rated bowl and never face the 10-1 or 11-0 MAC school. So the Perception is a lot better. The MAC as a whole is just a notch or 2 above the SunBelt, take the BOTTOM FEEDERS from the MAC away and have an 8 league Conf and you would almost rival CUSA. But not the Perception aspect.
Its sad but true if you go play infront of 15K and play well on TV then you still look bad, the team may not but to bowl committees and TV exes you do. If you go play well infront of 33-34 K in a 40K stadium you precived as having a loyal following and both committes and exes are going to take that into account. Why do you think Marshall got the last bowl spot over Akron last year even though Aknon beat us. Some MAC fans will say its because it was the FW Bowl. I think it had something to do with Perception. If bowl officals really wanted Akron they would have worked something else out with another bowl or 2 to switch teams around.

KNIGHTTIME Wrote:rocketfootball Wrote:KNIGHTTIME Wrote:I have a lot of respect for the MAC, but you can't compare the C-USA to the MAC. The league as a whole is on a whole different level. I mean Temple just had 9,055 fans show up for their home game against Toledo. UCF losing 17 in a row can more than double that attendance.
If you are comparing the talent of the teams, not attendance, then you can compare them. I mean, when the coaches and AP personnel vote for the Top 25 polls they don't go by the attendance at their games, they go by the talent of the team.
Taking away attendance....still doesn't look good according to the sagarin
1 ATLANTIC COAST
2 BIG TEN
3 PAC-10
4 SOUTHEASTERN
5 BIG 12
6 MOUNTAIN WEST
7 BIG EAST
8 CONFERENCE USA
9 I-A INDEPENDENTS
10 WESTERN ATHLETIC
11 MID-AMERICAN
Screw the Sagarin ratings KT. Look at the numbers listed by Mollaut. At this point the MAC, WAC, C-USA, and Sun Belt all stack up pretty badly against any BCS competition. The MAC, WAC, and C-USA seem pretty even looking at those stats.
Anyone that thinks that the Sun Belt is not far behind any of the other non-bcs conferences need to look no further than their great North Texas and their 54-2 loss to Tulsa. The Sun Belt is crap and the WAC, MAC, C-USA, and MWC are much better than the Sun Belt.

Regardless of the percentage points, at least people across the nation know that C-USA teams are D-1 vs thinking that the MAC schools are 1-AA. That was something that had to be explained many times to people that the MAC is actually a 1-A conference and not 1-AA.
Give me CUSA anyday vs being stuck in OHIO and MICHIGAN

Numbers can show whatever , the point is there is a big difference in playing in CUSA stadiums and having CUSA teams in Huntington vs going to the MAC fields and playing the MAC schools. As mentioned , many people around the nation think the MAC is a 1-AA conference while at least people know that the CUSA schools are 1-A so that alone is a major difference between the two.
The MAC is basically a Michigan / Ohio conference while CUSA is a Southeastern/Southwestern conference with a broader fan base as well as much larger cities to draw from.
Regardless that neither is a BCS conference there is a major difference in the markets , the fans, the schools , the facilites and the interest within CUSA vs the MAC
