P5 program....Only need momentum to become successful and accepted back in the fold of the "deserving". Any one of those coaches would take a job at a Big10 program. Nothing against G5 programs, but head coaches want to progress, just like G5 programs do.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Orgeron, Fuente, or Tubberville take that gig, if offered.

this is completely wrong..
coaches care about the ability to win more than conference

are all g5 stepping stones for coaches not at the end of their career? yes...but aat the end of the day anyone with sense will wait it out for the right job and not jump on..

you win enough aac games a blue blood will come calling....you jump to northwestern you realize your career goes to die as you cant compete because of the athlete differential in recruiting
Illinois isnt a blue blood...tubberville left ttech for cincy, our head coach and DC had numerous P5 jobs on the table when they chose houston

temple and memphis are different situation as the same struggles you have at temple/memphis are the same you'll have in IL..so i can seem them leaving..but saying general big 10 because g5 is wrong

For perspective, Illinois' coaching salary is 1.8 million. Illinois isn't prying anyone away for a dead-end job with that kind of money.

Tuberville makes $2.2 million at UC, plus his wife is from the Cincinnati area. So I doubt he would take that job, just to cross a name off that list.

RE: Illinois Coaching Search
I wouldn't worry too much about any AAC football coaches bolting for the Illinois job. Illinois, at present, is an absolute dumpster fire. The school's chancellor resigned in August in the face of a major scandal. The provost followed her out the door earlier this week. The athletic department is in disarray, led by two major investigations for improper treatment of student-athletes in both football and women's basketball. Mike Thomas will almost certainly be dismissed at some point in the near future (possibly before he is able to hire a new permanent head football coach).

As much as G5 football programs and coaches want to jump into grand lights of the P5, Illinois is NOT the destination to accomplish that. Not sure why Rhule, Tuberville or Fuentes would even consider leaving for U of I.

Coach Rhule signed an extension, he does pretty damn well at Temple, and his wife is a dietitian at Temple. They have three little kids. They're not going to pick up and move to Champaign, Illinois for a few bucks.

Scratch only Fuente and Tubbs from that list. Maybe GOL would be a good option for them?

He could even be AD too since the AD is getting fired also.

Nice delusion. Where did the last one go? Oh yeah...the powerhouse known as Boston College. This is life in the G5. Your coaches either get hired by someone else or fired.

I think Doc Holiday might be a good candidate for this job.

Been very underwhelmed with him as a coach. Particularly in that ECU game last year, the Houston game too. Not to mention getting beaten down by 6-6 P5 teams in our bowls! Unfortunately as long as we are in the AAC, it is very unlikely for us to do better.

And who's recruits was he playing? Butch jones! He has done a better recruiting job that his predecessor

ECU and Houston are good teams and have good players. ECU left points on the field against S. Carolina, smoked UNC, Houston had a fine year after stumbling in game 1, rebounded and beat Pitt in their Bowl game.

UC had a ton of injuries vs. UNC in the bowl game, and against V. Tech
we lost out starting QB and had to play a 3-4th string walk on QB. We left points on the field on that game early kicking FGs.

I was thrilled to beat ECU and Houston last year. You can watch the games on Youtube.

I am not talking about the talent, Tubs has done a pretty good job putting together a staff that recruits quite well. I am talking about his COACHING decisions. That terrible call on 4th down against ECU, that play against Houston two years ago that Kay fumbled and let them back in the game. I am worried about his coaching decisions, he and Gran have made several head scratching play calls. We forget about those things months and weeks later but in the moment is is FRUSTRATING. Almost makes me not want to watch games live anymore...

Pretty sure Addazio made less than Rhule, and he had zero ties to Temple. He had one foot out the door the moment he got to Temple.

Don't wake them up. The University of Illinois is a top national university in arguably the best collegiate conference in America. The school is the State flagship University in one of the largest States in the nation; and the campus is just a little over 100 miles due south of the City of Chicago.

So of course none of the AAC coaches would want that job. Be that as it may; the University of Illinois is likely to hire another terrible MAC coach anyway, so there is no need to worry about the Illinois job for most coaches in the AAC.
