CEO and six employees of 'world's largest online male escort service' RentBoy.com busted in a raid for promoting prostitution

Federal agents investigating a prostitution ring announced today the arrests of the CEO and six current and former employees of Manhattan-based RentBoy.com, described as the largest online male escort service.
RentBoy.com CEO Jeffrey Hurant and the employees, among them one woman, were charged in a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, with conspiring to violate the Travel Act by promoting prostitution.
The defendants, all New York residents, were busted early Tuesday in a sting operation and were expected to appear in court later in the day.

Disgusting. The fact that adults can not contract services with each other without violating the principle of non aggression is a direct slap in the face of freedom.

I don't like the idea of prostitution being legal, but I also like the realities of it being illegal even less. It should be legalized and regulated, and services provided for STI testing and protecting those taking part in it.

It is a very weird law to enforce though, any adult can legally have sex with any other adult for any silly reason, except for in exchange for goods/services/occupation/etc.

RE: Feds/NYPD take down rentboy.com
The Feds have more important things to do than worry about this group. Unless they're tied into human/drug trafficing or other heavier crimes IMHO.

I know several current/former rentboys from my time in San Diego. Most of them augment porn careers via hustling. Few of them end up in a good place. Although one of my best friends did hustle for a couple of years. He's doing quite well and is completely out of that now. There is a stigma to it in the Gay community, but it really isn't seen as that big of a deal to be a rentboy as it is in straight circles.

Quite frankly, I'd rather people go onto Rentboy to conduct business than have people hustling in the bars (which is really annoying) or on the streets (which causes its own issues).

For me, what I DON'T want to see is the hustlers have to ply their trade on the dl. Few things are more annoying than wasting 15 minutes chatting online or in person with someone who is just looking for some pay to play. The hustler is wasting his time. And more importantly mine. In one respect, rentboy was very useful if you're trying to figure out if the guy who is chatting you up is rent or not...you could always just go to rentboy and look up the local johns. And a must if you're trying to confirm gossip about the older guy with the younger hot guy.

And this wont be effective, as the hustlers will simply go onto other sites.

Regardless of whether prostitution is legal or not, this is kind of a waste, and will probably lead towards male prostitution being more of a nuisance to others, not less.

----

While we're on the subject of $$$ for sex....anyone really think Mrs. Trump would have married 'The Donald' had he been a poor old man?

And rentboy was probably the best way to manage prostitution.

1) The Hustlers aren't plying their trade on the streets
2) Johns and Pimps aren't needed
3) The Hustlers aren't congregating in one area, which causes issues related to drug use/dealing, and other public nuisances
4) People looking to avoid hustlers can easily do so, and people looking for them can easily find them

Services provided my azz. They can purchase business licenses and be mandated to pay for services to stay in compliance like the rest of the country has to do.

They will pay their fair share.

That's what I meant, though I guess rereading it, it certainly seems to come off as if I want them to be provided by the state. I meant services provided by the employer to the employee.

Prostitution could be defined as the selling of the fruits of ones labor. Under that definition I suppose you could require a license. There is of course though the question of personal liberty at stake. Do I own myself? Should I be able to contract to sell myself? I say yes to these questions also. No license is required to sell ones personal property anywhere in America that I am aware of. It is an interesting topic.

You would require a license because it is a public health issue.

Not a business license. I would guess something like a sanitation grade?

If they're selling their services, they need a business license just like any other business, and need to report their income like everyone else. They'd also need something to address the public health issues.

Leftists simply can't resist the temptation to tax or regulate something. Snatch included.

And you can't resist the temptation of resorting to vague potshots about leftist ideology when you know that 1) we have to regulate businesses in order to tax them, a right well within those granted by the constitution and required to provide even the most basic public services and 2) the public health issues concerning this specific industry are very real, and very serious.

Stop with the Ron Swanson act.

Not a vague potshot at all. It was quite clear.07-coffee3

Reagan said it best. "If it moves?..tax it. If it keeps moving?...regulate it. "If it stops moving?...subsidize it". The leftist playbook is pretty clear about stealing the fruits of others labors.

By and by, I agree that prostitution should be a criminal act, although as with virtually every other topic I defer to the wisdom of local populations (states) to make that determination. At least for now, NY law makes it illegal.

I'm hearing that DeBlasio supported this raid. Not sure if true, but curious if it is.
