It should be mentioned that quite a few internet providers do not provide ESPN3.

Agree.

I have a Roku 3 and an AppleTV. They are both hard-wired with Cat 5 to my router. And, I have a fast internet connection. But, as you said, it's still better quality and easier to watch games over cable (or satellite) than it is to stream them.

I do the same with Roku 3 and hard wiring to my router with fast Internet.

The quality is excellent and the setup is pretty simple.

The only thing I miss is not having a setup to record the games like I would on a HD DVR receiver.

Possibly you don't have the package that includes College Sports Extra. I have Brighthouse and CSE is part of their Sports Pass package.

a lot of cable and satellite companies still won't ala carte sports channels. you need to either buy a big expensive multi-channel package to get espnu, sec, bitten, etc... or - if lucky- buy a regular somewhat expensive package and add $12 a month or so sports pack.

I get all of the "sports channels", but I am not even seeing these on the guide anywhere. On ATT, if you open the guide you see all of the channels even if you do not get them. I know when the first statement about this was released, ATT was included.

I know the Minn-KSU game is on BTN2Go which is available on Roku. I assume it's also available on Amazon Fire, Chromecast and Apple TV, but am not sure about those. That assumes you already have BTN in your cable or satellite package.

I was wondering about that too since ATT doesnt appear to have a big ten alternate station like i have for the sec net. Ill have to look in to that on my Apple TV.

Well, internet providers have nothing to do with ESPN3. Basically, going to ESPN3, some games are for everyone, but any that are televised on any channel require you to send Verification of your cable/satellite provider to Allow you to see them thru ESPN3.com instead. Which means you have to log in to your cable/sat provider thru them, so they can scan what channels you subscribe to, thus what games you can watch via ESPN3.

For MAC games, if it's not on any of the ESPN channels and just "ESPN3 only" -- anyone can watch them for free.

The only other freebies are ABC-only... those games that are Not "Also On ESPN/ESPN2". It'd have to be nationally on ABC, not regionally.

IMO, one should always have at least a laptop or a $100 Amazon Fire or whatnot, ready to carry around the house to pipe it in to whatever TV you want to watch it to around the house, and watch ESPN games that way too. And with a little tinkering, installing Kodi aka XBMC on an Amazon Fire with some plug-ins to that program like NAVi-X, and watch B10 & P12 channel streaming for free in HD, too. :)

Can even go cheaper and get the Amazon Fire TV stick for $40. Best Buy recently just gave me a random $15 certificate credit. So I bought a 2nd Fire TV Stick for $25.

But yes, Kodi is the best...tons of live sports, tv shows, movies, music, etc. I dropped my cable TV package since I could get the few channels I watched to stream on it.
