Louisville is expanding Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium.
Quote:PJCS was built in 1998 for $79 million dollars. It was expanded to 55,000 seats in 2010. This expansion is expected to take PJCS to near 70,000 and be the largest football stadium in the state of Kentucky.

Thats awesome. I really wish UCF had some more money to further upgrade our stadium. I would have preferred we expanded roth tower vs create the east side club/bar. Hopefully the alcohol sales help.

But back to UL's stadium, very nice, i'm jelly.

That is great Wilkie. I think Ville football has a high ceiling and can challenge Clemson/FSU.

It is comical that the ACC ever had reservations regarding UofL. They are already and will become even more-so a premiere property in that conference. Probably saving it in the long run by anchoring Clempsen and FSU. UofL is a the model we should all aspire too. Congrats.

RE: Louisville is expanding Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium.
I lived in Louisville as a kid, from 1977 to 1983. Lived in Prospect and attended Oldham County HS - Go Colonels! Still have friends there, some of whom I will be attending the UH vs. UL game with.

With UL football/basketball/baseball, I have a love-hate relationship. I was a big fan when I lived there (and hated UK, I still hate UK lol). But now, being a UH alum and fan, UL is on my short list of teams I most want to see us beat in everything. Twice I've been disappointed when UL left the conference UH was in.

Anyway, I lived there there during the Vince Gibson and Bob Weber years. UL was just a mediocre-to-poor football independent playing in Old Cardinal Stadium (an old minor league baseball park), usually in front of sub-20K crowds.

So I'm very impressed with UL's football evolution. At the same time, I can't say I'm surprised. They've always had great support for their basketball program. As soon as they made football a priority, it took off.

You know what's even more comical? A Louisville fan who doesn't know which conference his school is in.

Oh I know why, and how many of those protesters will continue to resent UofL when the Cards carry the athletic banner? It was and is BS.

Lucky bastards. Why is this in the AAC thread? Cincinnati, Memphis, ECU, USF, UCF and Houston, UConn have the same potential with the right conference.

Multiple Ville fans still frequent the AAC board. No problem with that.

There should be. Especially when the OPer is known to trash us over on the ACC board.

That's exactly right. Many of us spent many many years on this very board, either reading or posting, so it's almost habit to stop by when making the message board rounds. It's also a good way to see how some of our old conference mates are doing. The silent majority of Louisville fans still remember where we came from and respect it. It's the vocal few that turn up their noses.

We will be up to ~55/56,000 by 2017, so we're one more expansion away.

05-stirthepot UConn is universally hated on the ACC board. It must have been that lawsuit you filed against Boston College, Virginia Tech and Miami, plus your attitude towards Notre Dame, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Louisville. Also, you sued the ACC, so you expect ACC supports for UConn? 07-coffee3

03-idea I still like Cincinnati, Memphis, South Florida, Houston and East Carolina, we all have some history. 04-cheers

Vince Gibson left Louisville to become Head Coach (football) at Tulane in 1980. Louisville is (alas) just one of the many programs we've fallen behind.

One of my beefs about Papa John's is that even the higher seats in the lower level are far away from the field. I can't imagine what those extra 15,000 seats will be like.

It's a shame it was built that way. I mean they started from scratch, had all the room in the world to design in the best possible manner...and you get seats in a different time zone than the game.

I guess I'm spoiled by Nippert.

There is not a bad seat in the whole stadium. There is excellent line of site. We had 42,000 in 1998. The stadium was design to have 84,000 seats. it appears we are adding 12,000 seat, which gets us 67,000 by 2018 or 2019.. After that we are 17,000 away from 84,000. I suspect we will be at 84,000 by 2029. I hope live to see it, I will be 80 in 2029, God willing. 04-cheers

I have no beef with Louisville fans coming over here. I frequently check out boards of schools UC has history with (Louisville gets even more attention because I have family there and my sister is a UofL alum).
