He used to play with the house band at Billy Bob's if you were "in the know"

The old man saw him several times including a time or two when they locked the doors, threw out most of the patrons, and let them play till the sun came up to mostly staff.

I remember it well it was on my birthday. I had tickets to go to Alpine Valley, something came up and we couldn't go. I heard it on the radio that morning. Yes, it was 25 years ago yesterday. The crash may have occurred after midnight.
I caught SRV quite a few times. Once at the Orpheum from the front row. He sat on the edge of the stage about three feet away from us. The thing I remember the most, SRV was not a big guy, but he had really large hands.
He was one Helluva guitar slinger.
