If we are fortunate enough to pull off this upset, it will be because we played a perfect game and UVA played like they just lost 2 competitive games to the 8th and 10th ranked teams.
That said the ranked teams are there mostly because of preseason rankings. Are they really that good? We'll see.
Our guys will be sky high, playing with a chip on their shoulders. How will UVA approach this game? Unless they win the ACC, they are now playing for a meaningless bowl prior to New Year's Day. Pride is a huge motivator, I don't think they want to lose to an in state FCS team.
I think they'll be fired up coming out and they showed they will not be easily discouraged if we start fast. It's going to be a 4 qtr game.

Feeling pretty sure we don't have the full story on Dedmon.

1) FWIW, UCLA is 6th in F+ and ND is 14th. That doesn't take preseason polls into account, though the early season rankings do include preseason ratings to some degree. I think ND's going to drop quite a bit without Zaire. UCLA looks really good.
2) UVA hasn't made a bowl since 2011. Their coach is certainly gone if they miss out again. At this point any bowl for them would be incredibly meaningful. This game is pretty important for them if they want to win 6 games.

I have to remind myself that when it comes to injuries and such, our game notes are about as useful as (insert witty comment about uselessness here...).

While the Cone of Silence has existed for many years within the football program on who plays and who doesn't, it is rare for nothing to be said at all for multiple weeks when it is an injury. In 2010, we had Jake Trantin coming back as a potential All-American candidate and he didn't play a down. Of course, that was not an injury. But Cameron Dohse was(concussion related if I remember) and it was weeks before we heard anything. Even, John Carpenter last year was not discussed until after he missed a week. In the social media world we live in now, it is amazing that the word isn't already out from somewhere. If I ever have secret plans, the Tribe coaching staff can be trusted to keep them.

RE: UVa game
In recent years injured players that missed games were not added back to the depth chart until the week after they returned to game action. Conservative approach or maintaining the element of surprise are my guesses as to why. Either way, I wouldn't put too much stock in the game notes depth chart.

Good to publicize this on social media after arranging another bus or two!

Dedmon has had mono and just hasn't been able to practice full speed these last couple of weeks. Wouldn't be safe to have him dress for practice if he wasn't close to 100%.
No secrets surrounding the situation.

I believe he is traveling though unlike last week. Just not sure if he has his legs where they need to be having missed most of camp with injury, followed by the sickness. Coming back too soon could lead to another injury. Do you really want to take the chance and lose him for CAA games. Winning the conference, making the playoffs would seem to be the goal here.
I wouldn't underestimate the group of WR's that is healthy right now. We can be productive with this group, especially if Cluley can spread it around like he did week one.

I had long assumed that was the case. Thanks for the confirmation.

RE: UVa game
The only concern was it going to be the short term kind (a couple weeks and done) or the lingering kind (up to six months with no energy). Let's hope it turns out to be the former.

RE: UVa game
Laycock has shown a propensity to pull key players in FBS games with minor injuries, rather than risk them for the remainder of the season in the past. I would expect that he won't use Dedmon unless he feels strongly that won't be the case.
Someone usually gets hurt in the FBS game (as they do in most every other game), I'm just hoping that if that is the case this year it will have minimal impact on the rest of the season.
As much as I would love for us to beat UVA, I'd rather see us win the CAA. Both would be a beautiful thing.
