Rumors of this move have included speculation about the former Little Ceasar's Pizza Bowl certification. If those rumors are on point, that would place the MAC as one of the conferences.

Didn't the new Detroit Bowl replace the Little Ceasars Bowl?

The LCPB's certification was not used for the Detroit Bowl.

I'd love to have Charleston as a bowl destination for the MAC, that city is a lot of fun. I could see it getting a Mobile-like following from the surrounding community if you give it enough time.

RE: New Bowl Game Announced
So that means there will be 37 sanctioned Division 1 bowls? 74 teams needed to fill them all? That will be increasingly hard to do with the P5 programs (except the SEC) vowing to not play any more FCS opponents. There have been seasons with less than that many bowl eligible teams with P5 programs playing FCS programs.

RE: New Bowl Game Announced
74 bowl eligible Division 1A teams out of 128 current members

VS

24 FCS Playoff SLots for about 100 elgibile teams
24 D2 Playoff SLots for 152 elgiible teams
32 D3 Playoff SLots for 240 teams
80 total playoff slots for almost 500 teams

Actually wouldn't mind the ACC having a back up agreement for one of their 6-6 teams. Nice driving distance destination for most teams

RE: New Bowl Game Announced
I think that would be more than 74 to fill all those bowl spots. 78 last year when they had like 83 that were bowl eligible.
This year would be 41 bowl games for 80 teams. This would be number 42.
Austin Bowl coming 2016 be number 43.
Melbourne Bowl coming 2016. 44
Christmas Bowl TBD 45
Dubai Bowl TBD 46
Ireland Bowl TBD 47
Little Rock Bowl TBD 48
Toronto Bowl TBD 49

This could be good news for FCS teams that want to move up. You will not get 94 teams to be qualified.

These schools could be fill ins in the future. Maybe Delaware, Chattanooga, Montana and so forth.

The purpose of a backup agreement was to protect a bowl against not having enough 6 win participants of host conferences with a backup conference. Normally that is a G5 conference that produces more bowl eligible teams than slots (MAC, CUSA, SBC).

Since 5-7 win teams ranked by APR are the backup for 6-6 win teams its no longer necessary for bowls to have secondary agreements.

However to get certified a conference will have to produce evidence of supplying enough 6 game winners (at least half the time).

The ACC's plan is to create as many bowls as it can justify for its 6 game winners to make sure there is no year they are short. The MAC's plan is get as many as these type of bowls in their backyard as possible with Florida/Bahamas/San Diego as part of the G5 bowl alliance.

Boise, Montgomery, Mobile I don't think the MAC is too keen on keeping those bowls long term. They want St. Louis and Indianapolis badly to go along with the backup in Detroit. To put the MAC division champs in against a 5-7 P5 team where they can win.

RE: New Bowl Game Announced
If I were the MAC I'd stick with 5 bowls and 1 backup agreement.

Detroit (backup for 6-6 ACC/B1G)
Indianapolis (against last ACC/B1G pick)
St. Louis (against last ACC/B1G pick)
Potato (against MWC and on the blue turf)
G5 Bowl alliance 2 spots (SD, Boca, Miami, Bahamas)

That's a good mix and then the strong possibility of a 6th or 7th team with six wins available to place in an at-large opening.

Since its very likely the MAC would be the only conference supplying extra 6 win teams the MAC would have its choice of openings (Liberty, Cactus, Independence) where they could place an 11 or 12 win champion.

Clue: This traditional bowl game will have conference tie-ins with twoFBS conferences. The optimum scenario would be to secure teams that have strong local support and recognition.

So this tells me SEC, ACC, The American, and CUSA. Not to mention Charleston is a big Navy area so I could see the American being one of the teams. ECU is also not far. [/align]

Melbourne, Christmas, Dubai, Ireland and Toronto are DOA. None are going to happen this cycle. Austin and LR are still possible. Medal of Honor is not a bowl yet. Its really just a proposal. It has a plan, but it is not been approved yet. LR, Austin, and Tuscon (who you left out) all won approval, but all decided to wait a year--I think they will have to win approval again (but Im honestly not sure about that).

Tuscon is a go for this year. Saw it announced yesterday somewhere.

I really don't think so, it seats 21k, this is another G5 v. G5 bowl.

There was this tweet from an Idaho radio sports talk producer:

John Patrick
‏@JPktik Tuscon Bowl Exec. Dir. Alan Young tells me they have secured a title sponsor & the @CUSAFB/@MountainWest game will happen this year. (1/2)
