Halloween Retailer Folds to LGBT Pressure, Pulls ‘Caityln Jenner’ Costume
Quote:
Halloween retailer Spirit Halloween, which previously defended its decision to sell a costume inspired by Bruce Jenner’s gender transition, caved to pressure from LGBT groups, and pulled the costume from its website Wednesday.
The “Call Me Caitlyn Unisex Adult Costume,” which satirizes the former Olympian’s likeness, as seen on the cover of the July issue of Vanity Fair, sparked outrage online Tuesday, with Twitter users and LGBT advocates describing it as “transphobic.”
Some of those upset by the costume also made violent threats toward anyone considering going as the transgender TV star.
A Change.org petition demanding Spirit Costumes pull the ensemble, expressed concerns it would continue the company’s “oppressive tradition with a transphobic costume of Caitlyn Jenner.”
“To make a costume out of a marginalized identity reduces that person and community to a stereotype for privileged people to abuse. In this case, if you follow through with production of a Caitlyn Jenner costume, cisgender people will purchase it to make fun of her and our community,” the petition reads.

This costume idea was hilarious. Thinking about making my own. While no one that I associate with would be offended over it, I'd personally welcome some liberal idiot(s) to threaten me with violence over it. Maybe I am a "privileged transphobic" but I find nothing wrong with making a joke of sicko's like Jenner and his ilk.

So it's perfectly okay to undergo surgery and go to endless trouble in futile attempts to change your sex or gender, but someone dressing as the other gender is oppressive.
Quote:A charity fun run for men dressed as Pantomime dames has been reported to police and accused of "poking fun" at transsexual people.
The Derian House Children's Hospice said it was "shocked" its fundraising 'Dames on the Run' challenge had caused offence and said it had apologised after a complaint has been made to Lancashire Police.
The run, described as "drawing on the much-loved Pantomime Dame character that is part of our theatrical heritage and supported by hundreds of thousands of people in every year" by the hospice, was labelled "dehumanising" by transsexual support group Chrysalis.
The men-only Dames on the Run race is intended to support fathers who 'do so much to hold their family together in the face of their child’s devastating illness,' the hospice said
Attacking a children's hospice charity. Stay classy queers.

I welcome satire. If Caitlyn didn't want the attention she shouldn't have broadcast it for the world. I think they got it wrong here.
I agree on this issue. But at the same time, I'm always acutely aware of the fact that many of these situations where businesses claim they are 'forced' to do something to do XXXXXX pressure are simply publicity stunts to get their names out.

'Merica
Its a bit more complex than that.
Some transgendered people actually think drag queens are offensive. That goes too far IMHO.
I think the way it should work is this.
1) If the costume is simply drag, or designed to create some sort of female illusion, then its probably fine.
2) If the costume is designed to make fun of transgendered persons or to question their gender identity, then it would probably be wrong.
