42-13 Owls. Would have been only 37-13 if there was actually such a thing as a seahawk. https://www.audubon.org/news/what-seahawk-anyway

27-24 win for Rice. And this board reacts as if Donald Trump had secretly wed Megyn Kelly in President Obama's vacation home in Hawaii.

48-13 Owls

I put up a prediction about a month ago -- on another thread. I think I said Rice 45 Wagner 7, but I'm too lazy to check.

I don't see how we score less than 50. Running backs will run wild. Driphus will have a big game, and the defense will cause havoc.

Rice 55
Wagner 10

Rice will be up by 20+ at the half. Rice's backup QB's and RB's show they can handle a lesser opponent and the scoring keeps coming in the 2nd half, despite Rice having its foot off the gas. 48-13.

RE: Wagner Prediction Thread
Hoping for:
1) At least 28 point victory.
2) well ahead at halftime so that reserves get playing time. Especially QB.
3) no injuries
4) BIG first game crowd. Especially from students
5) Wagnerian MOB program.
6) some cloud cover to blunt the late summer heat.
7) minimal mistakes, flashes of brilliance by the Owls on both sides of the ball to provide lots of confidence going into the next game against the Evil Empire.

I hope German gets a drive or two of actual offense (not just the typical handoff fest). Interested to see what he can do in a real game setting.

Bailiff goes for two on the final touchdown to try to appease those who want us to run up the score, but fails. Rice 221 Wagner 0. Parliament calls for him to be fired.

RE: Wagner Prediction Thread
All joking aside, assuming we actually do get a big lead, DB isn't one to run it up even if he can. Admirable personal quality... but 'tough' as a coach. I think we score high 30's low 40's, almost all of it before the second drive of the 3rd quarter and give up close to 20, almost all of it on the first drive and then after the second drive of the 3rd quarter.

I too would like to see us still be aggressive on defense AND offense, at least between the 20's. 'run the offense' (assuming a comfortable lead) until you get to the 20, then get conservative. Take the 3 rather than the 7, but don't simply hand the ball off. Let your QBs and linemen get some game speed and situational reps. Run the defense the whole game... maybe not show every wrinkle... but run it. get some back-ups reps so that they can rest the starters when they need a blow and we don't fall off.

Again, assuming we do what we need to do and get the big early lead, I'd take gaining yards in the 3rd and 4th, but few scores. Set up punt returns as opposed to going for blocks etc. Throw the ball away rather than force it. Don't struggle for the extra yards. If they press, throw the deep ball... even with a big lead... because that is the read and you're going to need that touch later. Make them play us straight up so that we can run the nuances of the offense like you would in a scrimmage... and NOT simply putting people on the field and running zone read over and over.

Careful what you ask for. 10 day forecast shows 60% chance of thunderstorms, with a high still of 95F.

Yes. I saw that. Honestly a little rain cooled air would be fine with me. I'll be prepared.
I long ago lost my tolerance for early football season Houston heat with humidity.
Welcome to Houston Wagner!

I think it will be more like 7-6 Rice. We score a FG, a safety and a 2-point conversion after they miss the XP after their only TD. Of course, we score the final 2 points with no time left on the clock.

(We played with our 3rd string plus a few fans from the bleachers.)

I've never seen a team take a knee on an XPA but that would sure be a situation where it'd make sense.

Also, it's a good idea to take a knee after stopping the potential game winning drive with an interception, but that doesn't always happen and we have won at least one game benefitting in part from that oversight by an opponent.
