Same for Houston and their $128M football stadium, $25M basketball practice facility opening in a couple of months, plus $60M basketball arena renovation and $20M indoor football practice facility breaking ground ~ Spring of 2017.
No two G5 schools are spending more on facilities with the possible exception of Colo State and their planned $225M football stadium.
The facilities all look great.
But we both know that facilities and on-field/on-court performance aren't what get you the invite.
Those are not the only things you need, but they put a school in a far better position than others who don't have sufficient facilities or top-notch athletic results.
The smart approach for these schools is to realize they're not going to "get in the club" in the way that Rutgers did. They're going to have to get in like Utah and TCU and Louisville, for whom facilities and athletic results obviously played a huge part.
Colorado State started construction on their new stadium last month. This quote from CSU's AD summarizes the approach.
Quote:As the construction begins, CSU is continuing to be mentioned as a possible candidate to be included in Big 12 expansion from 10 to 12 schools. While that's considered unlikely, and a major portion of the talk about CSU comes from the Rams' own fan constituency, longshots sometimes come in. Parker's public stance on that hasn't changed.
"We can't create the conversation, but we have to be fully prepared and ready to present ourselves in the best way possible if that dialogue opens up," Parker said.

NKU Arena (not a bad option)
You could always play a season in Millett.
I thought that was a library?
To be honest UC would probably get better crowds in Oxford than Miami does now. But with the recent renovations, it's no longer as dumpy as it used to be; just dated and lacking fans.
Went to a Miami UWGB game at Millet, walked right in with a friend, did not pay and sat right behind the UWGB bench. Coach looked at us and said you guys must be important. Bars were fun that night.

That is my take as well but there seems to be equal groups who want either Cintas or NKU's arena
I can stomach NKU but not Cintas....it would be demoralizing to play on that court as "home". Pass.
There's a good reason why the Crosstown Shootout has been the only nationally televised sporting event held at US Bank in many years (and even that was only out of necessity). The arena is ok for the fans, but here's an article about the media facilities:
"We media ask for a few things, and a few things only: Power for our laptops, Internet capability, something to eat and, well, facilities. The electricity worked, the Internet was spotty and the 3-ways were cold. If we wanted to use the restroom, the port-a-potty was right down the dim hallway."

It will be a new arena Mark. Pretty much all gets gutted to the exterior walls. Honestly, it is needed. 5/3 was designed as an all purpose practice facility. Even the the upper bowl with new club areas will be more appealing than the current lower bowl wood seats. Lots of open space in the concourses, 4 or so new club bar food areas.
The reason they had to keep the exterior structure intact is that there is a big complex underneath the arena. I "toured" it one night when I was a student (it was unlocked and I was wandering home from the bar). Among other things, it includes all the facilities for the football program except the fields and the coach's offices (meeting rooms, weight rooms, spa, laundry, home and visiting locker rooms). These are top notch specialized facilities and not cheap to move or replace.

UConn's Football stadium was built less than 15 years ago and cost 90 million + at the time.
Their football practice facilities which are less than 10 years old cost 50 million.
Their Basketball Champions center which opened 2 years ago cost over 30 million.
Last year the state spent $35 million to renovate the XL center where UConn plays half of their basketball games, this was largely believed to be a temporary measure to buy time until a completely new arena solution can be put in place.
They are building a new hockey arena on campus.
We're 5-10 years ahead on all this stuff and still went backwards.

It proves the point: winning, fan support and spending on new facilities are great things, but they don't mean your school deserves to be in a P5.

At least UConn Hockey is in still in a power conference.
In 2011, UConn football played in the Fiesta Bowl, the UConn men won a national championship, and hockey had a 1,000 seat arena and didn't offer a full roster of scholarships. 5 years later, the hockey team is the one in a power conference
