RE: Prediction of American finish 2015
Honestly, I think Memphis takes a step back this year. It's difficult to go from cellar to power in 1 year and sustain it. Memphis, in my opinion will finish in the 3-4 range behind Navy and Houston, and a surprise turn around in the west. With Lynch being a senior this year though, who knows what 2016 holds.

EDIT: Lynch is not a senior but a Redshirt Junior I believe. 2016 could be a good year once Memphis gets their D back under their feet.

Lynch is a junior fyi.

Also keep doubting Memphis and what Fuente is building. The defense isn't super green because guys starting now didn't start last year. Some of these guys started a few games last year or got a lot of real game reps last. Deshaughn Terry made the game winning interception and he didn't start last year but will this year. I think a lot of our conference mates want to see us fall on our face or are really underestimating the man in charge of this program.

Memphis should be good....but they won't be sneaking up on people this year and the defense is going to have to step up. I don't know if I see a seamless transition on defense like many Tiger fans are hoping. Could it happen? Sure. Will it? It usually doesn't work that way. But having said all that they will still be a tough team to beat. I think 8-4 is realistic. They could pull off 9 or 10 wins but that would be a little surprising to me (not far fetched).

I agree with the last few posters. Memphis will take a slight step back this year. 8-9 wins and 2nd or 3rd in the west.

Memphis scored an average of 36 points per game last year. If you take out the Ole Miss game at their place, it becomes 42 points per game, including 35 points against UCLA at their place, 41 points against Cinci at their place and 55 points against BYU in the Bowl Game.

The offense returns virtually everyone plus adding quality newcomers. In addition Lynch should be coming into his own, having another year of experience. They should average at least 7 points more a game, 36 + 7 = 43 points per game.

The defense did lose starters, but not experience. Virtually everyone in the two deep played significant minutes last year. The defense was a team effort last year and will be a team effort this year. It actually increases in speed and athleticism.

It appears that many of our conference brethren are underestimating us. We will contend for the West. We may beat Ole Miss at our place. The trap games will be Bowling Green on the road, Temple because it is on the road (thanks Conference AAC!. Second year in a row) and Navy because we haven't seen their offense. Cinci we get at home. (41-14 last year at their place.)

So no concerns about playing on the road against the team that provided Memphis with their only conference loss? Memphis was at home last year and the opposing QB was starting his first game.

Cinci Vs. (Houston or Memphis) in the championship game. Media picking Temple to be a surprise team, I just don't see it. I don't see them winning against Penn, ND or Cinci.

RE: Prediction of American finish 2015
I def think Memphis will be in contention for west but will take a step back and not win the west. Last years stats mean very little especially with all the qualifications in your post (take out the ole miss game, etc).

Defense is suspect and offense won't continue on same trajectory imo. Still a very good season by recent Memphis standards but not 10 wins.

Cinci is really the only quality win Memphis had last year. Their stretch to end season (Smu, Tulsa, temple, Tulane, usf and uconn) is maybe one of the worst 6 game stretch in the country last year.
I know ucf had a similar 6 game stretch of easy games but ucf is higher in my rankings due to back to back AAC championships. Better recent history of football success lends benefit of doubt. Memphis still has to prove it wasn't a one year fluke.

Just my opinion though. For Memphis fans if Fuentes gets 10 wins he's gone.

Seriously? Using last years stats to project offensive points per game is ridiculous. So everything will be exactly the same plus one more year of experience equals 7 more points per game? Defense is a team effort? I could have sworn everything in football was a team effort. Nothing in your post screams objectivety by any means. I'm sure Memphis will be fine, but spare us the total homer rhetoric and ridiculous quasi facts.

I love this whole mindset that Memphis can't be good in football and the concept that Memphis isn't good enough to keep a successful Fuentes when other AAC programs can keep their coaches no matter what. Keep underestimating us.

Memphis is good enough to keep Fuentes even fi he stays successful just not sure if y'all are rich enough. No matter how much you offer I am pretty sure P5 schools will the have resources to offer more. Money talks and people listen. No one is underestimating memphis this year, that was last year. Obviously, you won't be sneaking up on anyone this year.

I think Memphis is good enough. The problem is what college football has become with this divide between the big money conferences and everyone else. UC and UCF are very lucky to have great coaches who are on their last stops, ECU because they have an ECU man at the helm. Everyone else has to worry that their coaches may bolt for the so called big time. It is what it is.

That game was seen as a fluke. We were up 28-0 and it was clear that your QB didn't know any of the plays. Dude was forced out of the pocket one play and the rest was history. He ran for his life the entire game and it had incredible results. I'm sure if they had known he would run all day that they would have prepared the same defense they did for UCLA's Hundley. This year's game will be interesting since both teams know what is coming now.

What are you talking about memphis only scored 24 all game. I think after you were up 14-0 houston scored to make it 7-14, then houston tied it at 14 all. Then memphis scored with 1 minute left in the half to take a 21-14 lead into halftime. Houston then took a 28-21 lead in the second half when memphis kicked a field goal with around 7 minutes left to play to cut the lead to 4. No one else scored again and the rest is history. You were completely wrong with your assessment of the game.

Also, if memphis didn't realize Ward's strength was scrambling before the game started then memphis was just poorly prepared and that falls on coaching. Even if they didn't know that coming in they could have made an adjustment easily at half time. Bottom line is you got beat, no excuses, not a fluke.

If I wasn't a Tulsa fan I'd probably pick Tulane over Tulsa to be honest.

If we finish below USF, we might as well quit football.

That's what Cincy fans were saying on their boards when we beat them 41-17 last year.
