TCU was not ranked pre-season last year. Do not over look the top best teams in G5 either. They are better than what you think as well.

Although it can be annoying when teams get votes only because they were good 20 years ago, it is just as annoying to vote only based on how they finished last year.

In other words, its the pre-season. Everybody is guessing. You don't really know until the end of the season who the best teams are, but you have to base your pre-season votes on something which probably ends up being wrong, no matter what method you use.

The nice thing is it will correct itself gradually as the season goes on, and its kinda fun to watch your team climb in the rankings from week to week.

If my team is getting no votes in the pre-season, I just shrug my shoulders and say, well, if they start winning, they will eventually be ranked, and if they stop winning, they will drop out as it should be.

In summary, don't get worked up over pre-season rankings.

Problem is, even though the CFP rankings won't get released for another month and a half, you can't tell me these preseason rankings don't impact their rankings. Teams that start in the preseason top 10 have an advantage over everyone else.

This. For G5 teams especially. For example, for Boise state to be considered for a playoff spot they'd have to have started at a higher rank and go undefeated. Even then, it wouldn't happen. But they'd start higher the next year, rinse and repeat. The tcu's and baylor's could also cry foul because teams that have historical cache start higher and have an easier trip to the playoff. This gives credence to if the two reps from the B12 were OU or UT they'd have been in theory. Sports are supposed to be about competition and winners on the field, and we're giving an advantage to schools of old money just because they're old money, unAmerican if you ask me.

I don't think TCU and Baylor are too worried about their historical cache. They are ranked 2 and 4.
That looks pretty good to me.

the committee had TCU at #3 before the CCG's. so its preseason ranking did not prevent it from rising to #3. they ended up dropping to #6 because the committee did not consider them a P5 champion and the the 5 P5 champions got ranked above them. pre-season rank had nothing to with it.

Eventually none of this is really going to matter. The Playoffs will be the P4 champs. Win and you're in, lose and you're out, the rest is all talking heads talking.

That's the dream, one day. Just need the XII or ACC to lose teams.

Selfishly, the choice academic/research schools would fit well in the B1G. But either way...

The BigXII, not the ACC...the ACC's going to remain a P4 conference, little buddy. You can take that to the bank.

USC
Notre Dame
LSU
Arkansas
Arizona ahead of Boise State
Tennessee

We have some very dumb voters who vote for big name teams instead of how well they play. Those 6 could not finish in the top 25 by the end of football season.

I think you may have made a post I agree with. +/- the Arizona line. I'm a bit spooked right now. 03-confused

Can I infer from the elipsis that you think they weren't better? Right or wrong, teams that start higher in the polls don't fall as far when they stumble during the season. It's also teams that have been historical powerhouses that are given the benefit of the doubt.

There's always at least a few that have and will always vote Florida and Texas in the preseason top 25, despite how poorly they did the year before. Here's one such douche who should have his voting status revoked.

http://collegefootball.ap.org/poll-voter/bob-asmussen

I could only find three of them.

When I was a betting man, I always said to myself "at least 2 of Michigan, UT, and UCLA will be grossly overranked at the beginning of the year".

They were not picked because they are not named Texas or Oklahoma.

Both conferences will retain the status they have currently in the CFP, over its duration.

The question is which conferences will obtain auto-bids to the playoff in CFP II. And I don't see it expanding past four teams.

I personally didn't think they were better, but they were undefeated and thus could not be left out of the playoffs. No matter what I thought, they were the only one to do that. Anyone in the P5 who goes undefeated should be in.

The ACC will, and the expansion will come from the P4 conference championship games and potential semi-finals. 07-coffee3

Not as disappointed as we were. 03-hissyfit But back to the topic. I think TCU tends to be underrated. Been that way for a while.

I agree that the defacto quarter-finals will be the four auto-bid CCGs and a defacto sweet sixteen would be the four auto-bid CSFGs. Although it would be cool to mix up the conference champs or semi-finalists among conferences ...

Anyway, all we know for sure is that the PAC, B1G and SEC are going to be three of the four auto-bids.
