RE: 2015 Football Predictions - Take Your Shot
Looks like anywhere from 8-3 to 6-5 when I look through the schedule. I included scores a broad breakdown, and also thought I would include who are opponents play the week before and after us since that is often overlooked part of preseason predictions.
at East Carolina (0-1) - L, 38-10 - These are the worse types of teams for us to play to start the season. East Carolina is coming off a solid season, but rebuilding and will want to start strong to gain some confidence. Outside of the UConn victory, our best performances against FBS schools have come deeper into the season. This game is too early for all the new parts to be productive. (first week & at Florida, 9/12)
St. Francis (1-1) - W, 27-14 - I don't expect a tremendously sharp performance in this game, because this season is going to be process, but I do think Towson will control this game and never be heavily threatened in the second half. (SFU week before Georgetown, 9/5 & week after at Youngstown State)
Holy Cross (2-1) - W, 28-17 - Holy Cross does not look like a strong team on paper, but if Towson is not ready for this game they can lose it. This is the type of game that if our offensive line gets in sync early enough will be a blow out, but I think it will still be building up at this point in the season. (Holy Cross bye week before and week after vs. Colgate, 9/26)
at Elon (3-1, 1-0) - W, 20-13 - Towson lost a lot of games because of turnovers and making the wrong mistake at the wrong time. If we have not cleaned that up I could this being a loss. I hate playing bad teams in the opener, because they don't know they are bad yet. Catch Elon in a month or so Towson probably wins this handily, but I think this will be closer than people think. (Elon week before vs. NC A&T, 9/19 & week after at New Hampshire, 10/3)
James Madison (3-2, 1-1) - L, 34-30 - This will be a good test of our offense, because frankly I think James Madison will be one of the two toughest teams (Villanova the other one) to stop this year for our defense. I think we will be fired up to play this one after getting embarrassed by JMU last year, but I just don't think we can stop Vad Lee and our offense won't be good enough to win a shootout like this. We will really need to be in sync on the offensive line and running it well to stay in this. It will also be important to have a QB that can make the open passes when the opportunities present themselves. If not, this will be a blowout again. Two factors I love in this game. The revenge factor and the fact we have a bye the week before. (JMU week before vs. Stony Brook, 10/3 & after at Elon, 10/17)
at Stony Brook (3-3, 1-2) - L, 16-13 - We will need to play a mistake free game to win this one. I feel like Stony Brook is starting to feel comfortable in year three in the conference, and I predict a good step forward for them. Their defense has been their calling card, and this is going to be a slugfest. (Stony Brook week before bye & week after at Maine)
Villanova (3-4, 1-3) - L, 31-20 - On one hand I am glad we play JMU and Villanova at home and not on the road because I think we have a chance to pull off upsets in both games. On the other hand it stinks, because I think these are two of the tougher teams we could start out with at home. I think a JMU win early would really build confidence, and if we can get that win this Villanova game represents a major opportunity. I think Nova has too much firepower, but I do expect to be able run on them (hopefully the offensive line has developed by this point) and keep it close for most of the game. (Villanova week before at Albany 10/17 & after vs. Maine, 10/31)
Delaware (4-4, 2-3) - W, 38-31 - I meant do we ever know what is going to happen when this teams get together. This is a good time to play Delaware, because despite our toughest game the week before, I think Towson will be starting to hit its stride offensively at this point in the season. (Delaware opponent week before vs. New Hampshire, 10/24 & vs. Albany, 11/7)
Maine (4-5, 2-4) - L, 13-10 - I think we win one of the games against William & Mary or Maine. I will take the later. Maine's defense ate us up last year. This is one of those games where we will need our QB to not make mistakes. This is one of the games that sticks out where Conor Frazier's decision-making in some big spots gave Maine chances they took advantage of to win last year's contest. (Maine opponent week before at Villanova, 10/31 & vs. Elon, 11/14)
William & Mary (5-5, 3-4) - W, 20-17 - I think Towson will be playing its best football late and I think we can go into William & Mary and win a tight football game. (W&M opponent week before at Elon, 11/7 & week after at Richmond, 11/21)
Rhode Island (6-5, 4-4) - W, 34-17 - This and Central Connecticut State are what really made last season a bad one. If Towson wins both games it finishes 6-6 and we chalk up the struggles to a team that had a lot of seniors graduate, a new QB and a new o-line. This loss last year made me question the character of the team and coaching staff. We need to be ready to play at a high level against everyone. (URI opponent the week before - vs. Stony Brook, 11/14)
